Journal of J."B". Eyre: (01-09-40)

The memorial service for Jax was held earlier today. How depressing, but almost hard to not expect. After all, we signed up for the job.

My head still feels a little wobbly after feeling the impact of that depth charge. Amazingly enough, nobody was killed by it; but the wounds seemed pretty bad. Still can't believe Jax's helmet exploded like that. Whew. I could've sworn I've seen him come out of his suit like the last squeeze of toothpaste.

Anyway, the government issued food is krap. My constitution couldn't handle meatloaf of that caliber. Seeing as the toilets lack proper ventilation and break easily, apparently, I tried passing off a clog as a containment breach odor as casually as I could, but I forgot that we don't store dead aliens in live storage, and everyone, especially the science team knew I WAS full of $h!t.

I wonder where storage hides our stuff? I could go for a relaxer right now. My gut still feels twisted.

Journal of J."B". Eyre: (01-11-40)

It turns out little Jack has decided to join the party. That was one weird kid last time I saw him. I swear, I remember seeing that kid playing with a snake as if they were lost cousins. Seems he has personal reasons for joining us. Wouldn't blame him. His parents were awesome people. He was apparently a survivor found ages after the incident.

He was shattered when I visited him at the hospital. Had all sorts of crazy scribbles of reptiles. Couldn't tell if he was a fan of Godzilla, or something related to our threat got to him. Recalling the last war; I fear the worst. I'll keep an eye on him. The least I could do in honor of his parents.

Anya Snow had a hard time getting up this morning, the dreams were back. She had spent too much time sharing the memories of her alien captives. she had learned volumes but at a price, she had experienced perfection but was forced to live among the humans. Labeled an addict, she knew the truth.

The base commander had assigned her a special assignment. Seems one of the new recruits had family on the Hyperion. Anger can motivate a soldier to great heights but at the same time anger can motivate a soldier make stupid choices. Humans have merit in that they can excel at anything they put their minds to. Sometimes they are blinded by what they think they want to excel at. She decided to shoot Tasjack a message and see if she could guide him along the right track.

Getting angry is fun. Getting angry over petty things even better.

"Someone dies" makes me nervous about poor Rem's fate.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Alas, poor heavy weapon's expert.

Name: Fran Small
Gender: Female
Weapon: Best rifle available
Fran is Whale's sister, younger by two years and with a small frame. When the MP arrived at her house to explain the "training accident" that killed her brother, she was skeptical. After hiring a friend to hack high-level government computers, she discovered the truth. She stowed away on the sub taking the new recruits to the X-Com base. Despite her complete lack of military training (It's X-Com. She's probably about normal.) and improbable story, she stands ready to avenge her brother.

There is a direct correlation between using a torpedo-launcher armed guy for breaching duty and a revenge fueled sister with an impossible backstory signing up.   :P

E-Mail message to Argatson - Commander on base

Subject: revenge based soldiers.

Revenge based soldiers are indeed cause for concern. They are hot headed and aggressive which while in the short term can give them the edge they need against superior forces, it "will" get them killed. the solution is to suggest or manipulate them into forming relationships with other base personnel. soldiers are not suggested as their deaths can cause a sort of tantrum spiral. Try scheduling some sort of mixer party of the base personnel. it does raise moral and gives troops a reason to make it back to base. managing moral is going to be a big part of being a commander.

I'm a Marine Biologist who is, at best, in his fifties.

Revenge girl is a teenager.

This is not a path upon which any of us wish to trod.

"relationships" <> sex. they can mean anything from acquaintances to lovers. like friends or companions. instead of being a creepy old perverted man you could be the wizened old timer who guides by example and will always be there to support her when she inevitably does something stupid based on hormones or other emotional stuff like revenge
