Automated Dwarven Shower and Swimming Training.

  • Dig a single hallway between the bedrooms/food supply and the workshops.  Have this hallway dip down for 9 tiles before returning to it's original height.
  • On the lower level, dig a side hall and dig a drain into it, which can lead to a drainage system of your choice.
  • Place floodgates, or a hatch cover blocking the drain, link it to a pressure plate which activates upon 5/7 water.  Also link it to a lever for manual control.
  • construct a room above your lowered hallway, channel out some holes and place hatch covers over them.  Link these hatch covers to pressure plates directly beneath, which activate upon creature weight.
  • Add a floodgate to upper room for manual water intake control, seal it and link it to a continuous water source.
  • Revel at how clean your dwarfs are and how they can tread water to battle carp menaces.

And, as far as I know, removes "vomit covering" and "blood covering" in the process.

Sounds good :).  You've just got to be careful not to trigger any Dangerous Terrain cancellations.

It also puts out any that are on fire.

Playing a cheesemaker in an average Fortress 'round here would be. Freaking. Terrifying.

Sweet, an anti-fire imp-related fortress death system. Just in case one roasts someone important, y'know?

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Nope, the vomit, blood, and mud coverings and splatters repel water.

A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Wouldn't this kind of shower cause literal CRAPLOADS of job cancelling?

I'm not even sure that it puts out burning stuff, there was a thread about this somewhere, that even if a dwarf is put out and is no longer marked as being on fire, will still take heat damage until it dies (the one who tested this kept healing him with dwarf companion).
