Captured Goblins = Dwarf siege
« on: February 26, 2010, 08:32:21 pm »

I just got this cool idea.  Capture as many goblins as I can, and then make a mini castle with walls towers a gate and fortifications.  Put all the caged goblins into the fort and then close it up then release them.

Now that they are all sitting in their new home, I would storm the mini fort with my dwarf army.  Does this sound epic?

Any advice on how to go about this plan?

Yes. It does.

How will you storm the castle?

Will you lower the bridge and have catapults and ballisti fire into the castle?

Ground troops?

Crossbowdwarves?

I will drop their gate for them, and storm into the castle that way, their marksmen will be on walls, and i will use a system of doors to keep them in the castle until i get to them.  It might be more fun to fire a volly of catapult at them too.  So basically my troops will storm and clear out room by room courtyard by courtyard.  A mix of melee and ranged dwarfs.

Sounds like a dwarven SWAT team.

I say you make a single hammerdwarf take off all his clothes but a loin cloth, then make him storm the fort with just a hammer, barbarian style!

I bet they won't fight because they will be trying to path off your map.  Sounds like a lolzy thing to try though.

It'd be easy to keep them from running away, though. Just dig a ditch. 'Cause no creature in Dwarf Fortress can jump.

Hehehe, this sounds like a good time. Maybe rig up some supports and cause caveins when you fire the catapults at them. Let them taste a hypothetical DF v1.0 siege!

:O I love that idea

What about booby trapping it to increase dwarven slaughter? Or have it start collapsing on the combatants.

The problem is that captured seigers don't fight back at all. Instead, you should capture a whole bunch of river or chasm creatures, as well as a few berserk traders or dwarves and use them to stock the fort.

What if monkeys created civilizations on the moon?

Once the game declares the siege 'over,' any goblins not being directly attacked (even if idling near your dwarves) will stand around if there's no path out or run if there is. Maybe if you wait until goblins actually siege the POWs might want to fight again, but not sure.

It would be from ambushes.

Ends up being about the same thing. Goblins are cowardly and know when they've been beaten. There's a certain mindset that sets in after 1/2 to 2/3 of them are dead (ambush, siege, whatever) that makes them want to run. I'm just not sure if they decide to want to fight again if a seperate group of goblin siegers shows up and the programming automatically turns all goblins to fighters again instead of run-away-ers.

I guess there's nothing to say, but...

Have fun storming the castle!
