For the record, people talking about ignoring the old testament except gays, homosexuality is condemned in the New Testament too.  Whether or not it's being attracted to the same sex that's a sin or just having gay sex that's a sin, I dunno.  One of my friends says it's only sex, and you can be gay without a problem, but then again she's probably just doing that to reconcile her love of Harry Potter now that Dumbledore's out of the closet.

Well, neither is necessarily a "sin" by NT standards. Jesus never said jack about homos. Paul did, but he wasn't God in human form, he was just a preacher dude. Also, his comments were directed at a church (in Corinth, IIRC - I think Corinth was big on this stuff) that was in a city with a major Dionysus cult. Dionysian worship involved getting hammered and banging everything that moved, and especially lots of gay sex. Gay sex was involved in idol worship, which Paul was trying to get rid of - that's why his anti-gay comments are found in (again, IIRC) Corinthians. Same, actually, with the things about women should be quiet in church - women getting wild and crazy was associated with Dionysus as well

Darnit, I was going to mention that it was one of the Epistles and didn't have the Official Jesus Quote Seal of Approval but I got sidetracked by Harry Potter talk.

I'd still say it's unfair even if it's "just" gay sex - wouldn't you be rather annoyed if someone told you you weren't allowed to ever have sex again?

But yeah, Jesus himself didn't say it.  He was an amazingly progressive preacher.

Kirk's father and Spock's mother did not need to die; in the normal timeline where Kirk's father is alive, Kirk is in Starfleet.  In the movie, they kill off his father to motivate him to do what he was going to end up doing anyway.

That's not correct. The death of Kirk's father actually DELAYED his entry to Starfleet, making him the equivalent of a "school dropout" instead of whatever career he originally had, in an attempt to make him Darker and Edgier.

Jesus didn't need to, Israel at that time had no problems with following the law of killing homosexuals so the subject didn't need to be discussed.  Paul then traveled throughout the Roman world, where homosexuals were actually present and considered healthy and normal, thus the need to bring it up as something that can be forgiven.  Asking for an Official Jesus Quote Seal of Approval on everything Christian is just an excuse to ignore an entire chunk of the Bible.

he was just the greatest missionary that ever lived.

How does that make him infallible or the arbiter of what is or isn't sin, in Christian doctrine?

Seems more like a retcon to me. Well, Christians 300 (or 1000, or 1700, whatever) years ago canonized his writings, so he MUST have been divinely inspired - otherwise the bible would be fallible!

But what's the basis for going from the belief that Jesus was God, to the belief that everything Paul said was right? It's a logical non sequitur.
