Haha what? So much about generalizations, again.
Haha indeed. Not just you either. Anywhere on the internet you can find an aggressive or passive aggressive atheist who's more than willing to derail you with your use of "could" in a sentence rather than address his double-sided negative fallacy sword.

Not just me either? You're still saying I'm insultingly blatant? "Memories of B12 atheists from times past"? I don't even think I ever participated in a discussion about religion in this forum before.

Aggressive, passive aggressive, yeah right. Who's making the ad hominem attacks here. Plus the constant sweeping generalizations. And swearing.

"could"... hu?

Hu? Anyway, I'm afraid I have to go to bed. Good night!
Riiiiiiiight. Just think about it for me.

I'd have a think if I'd knew what you're talking about!

Bonne nuit!

*sneaks in*

There's a difference between 'Whatever floats your boat, I guess' and 'You're stupid if you think a higher power is going to save you now/after you die!!1!1'. Same difference between 'Dude, whatever, I don't believe in god' and 'You're going to BURN IN HELL FOR EVARRR!11!'.

The amount of the burn-in-hell crap is less than the 'DUDE UR STOOPID' crap, but they are trying to overdo the being vocal thing. The amount of fanaticism and zeal oozing from both extremist sides is what gets me (gets me laughing, I mean).  And for the record, I don't give a damn if you believe in a god; mine or otherwise, a benevolent force, a pantheon of gods or actively refuse their 'alleged' existence, whatever. And I'm a religious type, too. And I can understand the evangelists being zealous, but seeing the same zeal in atheists is a bit intriguing.

I'm not feeling threatened by the presence of agnostics and atheists, and sure as hell (hmm, nice analogy there isn't it) I have no intents of forcing anyone any religious thought. The second you go aggressive, however, I (and almost everyone else) will try to defend ourselves. And in the years of scrounging so many forums (had internets since 98, it's been over 10 years... damnit I'm getting old) I've mostly seen atheists attacking. The atheists I've encountered were almost always on the attack, on an aggressive track to 'deliver the shackled minds from it's chains'. As organized political and philosophical formations, religions have learned (or are painstakingly learning) not to attack non-believers. Theists from different religions can live in peace (Christians, Jews and Muslims in the US manage to do so, last decade's negativities withstanding), so some of us just want to accept you as yourselves and get on with our lives.

Anyway, my major point is this: If extremely vocal theists are zealous, how would you describe the extremely vocal atheists? Vigorous? Filled with fervor? Because, as an outsider, it just seems like the same crap. I can see why the god (or gods, or whatever) can be so important to a religious person, but why is this belief so important to the atheists?
Oh by the way...

No, you're right. I think I'm thinking of Leafsnail. The endless one quote reply posting ballooning into irrelevant nitpicking about words is bringing back memories of some sort anyway. I can't put my finger on the individual, but there's one here that I really dislike but it's been so long it might as well be the lot of atheists here.

My modest proposal for atheists is a culmination of a reaction to every atheist I've met. On the whole, I would consider it a very negative impression.

Do it. Address it. You know you want to.

You are familiar with the negative proof fallacy? Probably this half of it:

there is no proof X is false
   therefore X is true

Did you know it has a sister half? And they're, gasp, teaching the following blasphemous logical fallacy in school?

   X has not been observed
   Therefore X does not exist

High five! I'm not the only person who has noticed this trend.

I'm starting to think I'm not the only one with a negative impression of internet atheists either.

Akigagak, let us form a pact. Every time someone post something serious in this thread, one of us must spam that.

As organized political and philosophical formations, religions have learned (or are painstakingly learning) not to attack non-believers.

My drive to work every morning would tell me otherwise.  How many Atheist bumper stickers proclaiming "There is no God"?  Zero.  License plates?  Zero.  How many proclaiming "Jesus is lord", "God is your savior", and license plates that say "Gzus Lvs"... but there's no way you can get one that says, "No God."  I have seen approximately 15 cars this week alone (and it's only Monday) that have some sort of religious message that is crammed down my throat about how "God" and/or "Jesus" will grant me entry to heaven.  I won't even get into the national money aspect of it... in a country with freedom of (and from) religion who's pledge of allegiance was changed in the 50s to add "Under God"... No, Atheists are not being aggressive at all.  In fact, I'd argue we've been stepped on for not speaking up over the years when we should have.  Now, most religious folks (my Father included... thanks Glenn Beck and the rest of you) think that the founders formed this union BECAUSE they wanted to spread Christianity and wanted the Christian "God" to be a major part of our governance ... I still don't understand that argument.
