Unversity Hospital vs Free Clinic vs LCS home healing
« on: February 25, 2010, 07:36:14 pm »

What's the difference? Especially if your LCS doctors have low or high First Aid skills.
Also, my founder has leg: Sht. Will this ever change? The hospital refuses to treat him for that leg.

I think it works like this, if you send them to the free clinic, they will take care of minor stuff, like ltwound, but if they are seriously injured, they will automatically shift them to the university hospital.

I don't know anything about LCS home healing though.

The justice system has the best hospitals.  I had one of my liberals get shot in the face and arrested, and, when he got out of jail, his health status was FACEGONE.

Good job, docs.

Even without a liberal medic, that shot:leg should heal on its own given enough time.  I'd estimate about 2-3 months.  But if you assign someone to "heal liberals" (afterwards they'll have the status "Attending to wounded"), the process is quicker.  Such an individual must have some "first aid" skill, and can not be sent out on squad missions.

Home healing is useful as it trains your liberals "first aid" skill.  With decent skill, your liberals can heal wounded in battle.

The FREE Clinic is not as good as the Hospital, but it doesn't really matter to you since the FREE Clinic will refer any cases they can't treat to the Hospital anyway. This is mostly flavor; the Hospital doesn't actually cost anything.

Your own First Aid Liberals can substitute for these, but their skill is a major factor. Only when your first aid starts to get above 10 or so do they become a viable alternative to professional treatment. However, developing such powerful LCS doctors is valuable, for the reason EuchreJack points out -- they make great field medics.

So there's no reason to ever go to free clinic? Just go straight to hospital, always? ... meh. ok, thanks. (or rather, going to one is the same as the other?)

In the current version, the hospital is actually a little faster, so it's best to go there, but I wouldn't worry about it because it's too much of a pain to deal with. Next release, they'll be identical, and they'll handle along the lines of the old time-based healing code.

Perhaps the University Hospital can be incorporated into the new "organization investment" system by requiring medical coverage to be purchased.  Then, the free clinic can be set to give the same treatment but take longer.
If you wanted to be realistic, the free clinic should also give the chance of "complications" which lead to permanent injuries or death.  It is a proven fact that more people die in "free clinics" than in "university hospitals".

I'm not sure that the United States really uses "free clinics", since Emergency Rooms are required to take anyone that shows up, and can't dismiss them until the patient is "stabilized" (aka not bleeding).

Actually, the idea in the game that anyone can stay in the hospital until fully healed is a liberal dream that is unrealized in the real world.  Then again, do we really want to simulate being forced to wear casts on limbs for months outside the hospital?

Personally, I think we need a Health Care issue/law and that would change what is offered. The more conservative the laws the more you would pay, while the more liberal the less you pay.

I like this idea. Maybe if the law is C+ there is no free clinic and its all pay.

And if L+ its all free.

Make a big difference between The Free Clinic and The Uni Hospital and make The Uni Hospital pay to visit maybe?

Healthcare laws:

C+: No support is given to free clinics and medical treatment is very expensive. (Free clinic closed)
C: Very little funding is given to public health care. (Free clinic opened yet ineffiecent)
M: Public health care is given fair funding but treatment is still expensive. (Free clinic works fine)
L: Free clinics are able to provide professional treatment. (Free clinics almost as good as hospital, hospital costs lower)
L+: All medical treatment is paid by the government. (UH shut down as Free Clinics are now equally good)

Perhaps if a liberal shows up with gunshot wounds, they should get an increase in heat, especially if they participated in some lawbreaking which resulted in their wounds. The free clinic maybe could generate less heat then the hospital.

If this is implemented, it would be cool if there was a shady doctor you could visit as a third option that generates no heat but has the lowest quality care.

Hard to implant. Possible check for any law breakings on entry and then add the heat to the current safe house could be actually esay.

Should be easier to implant. Haven't looked at it myself, but it does run with the theme of the game with stuff changing as the laws change.

To be hilarious, the Free Clinic should get better, but the overall quality of health care should get worse.  In other words, as health care becomes more available to all, medical staff gets more and more overworked, and make more errors.  So, as Free Clinic gets better, University gets worse.  It ties into the idea of the game actually getting harder as the player achieves greater success.

If gun control is sufficiently C, you can always pass it off as a hunting accident.
