best dwarven music?
« on: February 25, 2010, 06:12:40 pm »

i know that DF has its own music but i grew tired of it and also of just sitting with no music at all, so i'm experimenting with whatever fits in with DF best

last few days i spend playing while listening to StillStream (that's an online Ambient station) and i think that their dark ambient and other ambient types of music are very atmospheric when DF is on.

but i'm curious what are other's choices of music for DF, and if i'm missing something even more great

People usually suggest metal. There are about two other threads for this, if you bother to search.

I always fail to understand why metal is considered "appropriate" DF music.... The Dwarves themselves can only make drums and flutes. And combining the two, you usually get some sort of "folk" music....

Something like this, with heavier drums, and less fiddle.... is what I consider dwarven music ;)

(Also, I can't wait to have Drums implemented as real instruments....
Imagine the horror the poor goblins would feel as the entire mountain they are marching towards, starts making massive amounts of "boom"...

Drums in the deep, in reverse!)

I personally like folk metal with my DF. Korpiklaani, Turisas, and some others in similar style.

You are all wrong. I can bet you $10 that you won't find anything dwarfier than this.

I'm no judge of dwarfy, but that Tom Waits song is at the very least fucking awesome.  I'd never heard that one before.

I always thought that sounds similar to original Tarn's guitar music fit DF the best. Something like Diablo 1's music for Tristram.
Haven't really looked for anything like this very much but I did stumble upon Mor Karbasi and her spanish-gypsy-jewish-like music, and I really like the feel it gives to DF.
YMMV, of course.

Not all of her songs fit well, though. Try "Rosa" or "La Galana".

I usually play a lot of trad. celtic and irish songs while dorfing around, especially drinking songs.

(Oh whiskey you're the devil
You're leadin' me astray
O'er hills and mountains
And to Americay
You're sweet, you're strong, you're decenter
You're spunkier than tea
Oh whiskey you're me darlin' drunk or sober)

99 100000 Bottles Kegs of Beer on the Wall Floor
Fixed.
Take one now, chug it all down, 99999 Kegs of Beer on the Floor, and 1 barrel in the other room.
The dwarven version goes to a different tune.  :D

I know death metal is pretty cliche, but William Murderface, Dethklok's bassist, may be the most dorfy man in existence, willing to chop off his "ding-dong" then admit that booze isn't food.  Also, I cannot help but think of "Murmaider" when watching dorfs try to fight pike.  Not carp.  Pike.  (Dorfs: 3; Pike: 5)

Bagpipes are pretty fitting, at times.
