Does that first <mysterious bug monster> get an accolade for single-handedly freaking out the whole team?

Nice to see that this time some of the team survives first contact with them. I suspect that more than any other alien, those ones specialise in leaving no survivors...

Ugh. You got lucky. Every time I've encountered chrysalids for the first time, I lose the entire team.

Well, this is why I put "interested in cloning" on Quibble's sheet. Time to break out the vats, I guess.

Death comes quickly to those who deal with Chrysalids. Oh well, new character time!

Name - The Carl
Specialty - Explosives
Bio - 'The' Carl is a man who has spent his entire life with explosives. He is a rocketeer, a demolitions expert, and a pyromaniac. He likes to use rocket launchers, and actually did some good with one by blowing up a sectoid scout that had been hovering over his village in Belize. He has heard rumors of aliens using weapons similar to rocket launchers, and is very curious.

I'm always lucky on first encounter with chryssalids. By the time I meet them, I already have some plasma weapons researched, sometimes even grenades.

Chryssalids can be taken out with relative ease in certain situations.  Laser rifles can work just fine against them, you just need to keep your people in squads so there's enough firepower for all of them to get a shot in at this dude.  Just have some mobile firing squads available, and try to maintain clear sightlines.

Of course, since these guys usually show up in urban environments, that's much easier said than done.  And a cluster of squadmembers can quickly become a death pile thanks to a grenade, B-Bomb, or even a chryssalid chain.

If you really want to be stylish (albeit somewhat ineffectual), roast them with IN rounds.  Although this is really better for taking out the infinitely less worrisome zombies.

And, of course, the moment you get flying suits chryssalids turn into glorified target practice.

Yea Chryssalids were terrifying in xcom.  I recall rather fighting mutons than those things.  But a few guys with flying suits turn them into jokes.

Sorta like the brainsuckers in Apocalypse.  Fast moving, small targets almost garenteed to take out a soldier and turn them against you if they got to one.

Brainsuckers fortunately had that little bug or exploit though that made them significantly less dangerous. They couldn't brainsuck a crawling soldier.  And they would still try.  They would just bug out and knock themselves out on the soldier's tile for the duration of the mission instead of brainsucking.  It was hilarious when an entire swarm of the things went after one crawling soldier.  That bug probably singlehandedly knocked the game's difficulty down a few notches, and made live brainsuckers child's play to get.

And once again flying is effective as they can't jump all that high...

That... was awesome.

And because I feel obligated: Quibble.

Also, that audiolog. Recorded before the skyranger left for Tehran.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll add another one later, recorded after the mission.

OR, you could fly up to the ceiling.
OR you could stand in a doorway.
OR you could use androids.

Plenty of ways to beat brainsuckers, actually.
