About 2 days ago, I reported in to my new assignment: X-COM. I knew there was some kind of government coverup conspiracy... thing going on here. Little while ago one of the interceptors got back. The away team brought back some weird stuff. Some kind of rifle, never seen anything like it before. Of course, I'd never seen anything like this "laser rifle" strapped to my back either. They also had some other craft, bringing in some other... things. Looked like hull samples, maybe. The techs assured me that one of them was some kind of power supply. Can't for the life of me figure it out, but they know more about this than me.

They also wheeled some body bags back. I hope that it's more of those bastards from LA, but the proportions were all of. Too tall, to thick in what I can only assume was the head. One of them dropped head-first and I heard a metallic clang. If there's more than one of these... Alien species - that never stops being weird to say, I think - but if there are more than one of them, I'm not sure this is a good way to fight them. We can't keep up our defensive forever, and these seem like they have far more forces than they're deploying here. We need to go on the offensive. Wherever that is.

Yeah, the two new base commanders all earned it by being the highest ranked. It might be unusual, but any real-world organization would probably do the same if the top ranked officers were all women.
