Nope, and dismantelling facilities makes you pay 80,000 dollars a month maintaining the empty space where they used to be.

Nope. You lose 80k each month for each square in your base which has previously contained a facility and has not had anything else built on it. That's 320k for hangars right there.

I think there are fixes for this (as well as the radar stacking bug) for XcomUtil though. I know UFO Extender fixes the paying for dirt bug.

ok so i have a little bit of time to continue writing today. I have added archangel and norman to the waiting list on soldiers. we also have a HWP remote pilot about to join the ranks.

just some notes:

wacky people: as you may have noticed. I might not give you exactly what you want

greedy people: you want it all, i'll try to find what you focus on the most and cater to that. i cannot really control what stats you get but i can try to pick you out of a batch of new redshirts if one has a stat or two you wanted

other people: soldiers are not the only personnel on this base, we still have openings for pilots, scientists, technicians, second in commands and such (even later on hyper wave decoder operators and psi focused psychologists) so please speak up if your interested in putting a face on these people so i don't have to refer to them as "roy"

Name : Mario
Weapons : Heavy Weapon Platform remote pilot.
Description ;

Mario has always been dreaming of being a solider, but when he was 15 he was in a terrible accident resulting in him becoming paraplegic. After a few years he was hired by "Deep Core Mining Inc." and was the remote pilot for their ROHs (Remote Operated Harvester). For 22 years Mario operated multiple ROHs and basically made DCM a fortune. Mario's job was to harvest the mud from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, over & along the Mid Atlantic Ridge. The reason; the mud contained diamonds. After he sucked up majority the diamonds along the ridge throughout 22 years, he was out of a job; he was retired. DCM pays his pension, but he was not satisfied; he was bored being retired at the age of 37. At this point he was recruited by X-Com Operatives to be their Heavy Weapon Platform remote pilot. When Mario arrived, he was put instantly into training, he comes to the base knowing that it has been running for awhile.

Mario is brave with his tank. But not stupid.

I stepped into the command center and demanded a report. "Ufo detected heading north west at 600kt/s. Classed as small"
"Scramble an interceptor, take it down" I walk sit at a console that I had modified so that I could better view the action. I watched a red dot slowly hover across a map of North America. "Get the ground soldiers prepped and ready to fly."

The interceptor screamed through the air, quadrupling the speed of the sluggish ufo but it quickly caught on and accelerated. The interceptor pulled within visual range and confirmed it's target.

"Take it down interceptor 1." I commanded. The pilot responded by launching it's avalanche missiles, taking the ufo down in two salvos.

(note, the second launcher was empty because of an annoying bug where if there is not enough ammo for an interceptor to rearm, it will not rearm again untill it flies and returns to base again)

Cheers fill the command center as the ufo drops out of the sky, crashing into the farmlands of central USA. "get that skyranger into the air, I want a video feed on that ufo, disable and capture any survivors." The skyranger roars as it fires up it's engines, taking off vertically out of the base before rocketing off towards the crash site. It seems so slow in comparison to the interceptor as it moves across my screen. most sleep soundly as the skyranger crosses hundreds of miles of cities and towns until it reaches it's location.

Before landing the ground soldiers gave their equipment one last check before securing themselves for landing. The pilot gave a countdown as the skyranger approached touchdown. Once the countdown hit zero the rear door dropped down into the dirt below.

"It's pitch black out there! cant see 10 feet past the bottom of the ramp" Complained Tamunshin
"We're here to bag aliens, not the boogy man, don't worry" Snapped Razorwire
"Cut the chatter grunts" I barked through the radio channel "Go ahead Mario, scout the vicinity" I motion to the remote heavy weapons platform pilot in the command center.
"Leaving the skyranger now commander, nothing to the left of the ramp..." The tank churns through the loose dirt as it turns to the right. "hold on... I see something"

I re-size my link to the video feed from the tank and lean closer to make sure what I'm seeing is correct. Just within the front lights of the tank is what appears to be a little gray man with big black eyes holding something in its hands... "Spartan, Heyridden, Get your eyes on this, Mario, keep it in your headlights." I kept my eyes peeled on the screen, the alien stared straight at the tank, motionless against the tree. perhaps it thought we couldn't see it.
Spartan slid off the edge of the ramp and peered over to the tree, spotting the alien quickly "I think I see it commander... What IS that?" But before he could finish his thought the alien screeched a terrible echo-like wail and held up the item in its hands, it started to glow at the end pointed towards Spartan. "It's got a gun! Open fire!"
Spartan jumped to the right and quickly fired off a few rounds that would not fly true to his wishes but Heyridden dropped down, held out his pistol and gunned down the little gray man.

"Got him!" Shouted Heyridden through the channel excitedly.
"Good job, now somebody check it, see if it's alive or not" I directed to the ground forces.
"If he's anything like we are, he's not getting back up again. It's insides are on the outside if you know what I mean." Myroc described with as little detail as he felt was desired.

The soldiers piled out of the skyranger and set up a perimeter, activating and throwing electro flares into the nearby sections of the farm. Once the area was illuminated they felt confident there were no more of the little gray men in the immediate area. Their attention turned to the orchard just out of reach of the last flares. RAM 1 and Mr. Apples tossed their flares into the orchard and over the hedges that blocked the team's view.

"Could you move up and scout out that orchard for us Mario?" asked Razorwire as he setup an advancing perimeter while he motioned for RAM 1 and Mr. Apples to breach a section of the hedge wall so that if needed the team could preform a pincer. Meanwhile the tank approached the orchard, stopping suddenly. "do you see that commander?" Asked Mario.

"Yes I do Mario, proceed with caution." I looked closely at the screen, hidden in the orchard was another little gray man. "Allow the others to try dispatching it first."
"Acknowledged commander, I'll try to blind it like the last one."
The little gray man hissed at the light and fired pointed it's weapon at the tank, firing a flashes of green at it, two shots missed and hit the ground, leaving smoldering patches while the third connected with one of the tank's headlights, taking the light out instantly.
"Shit! I took a hit, take it out guys!" Cried Mario as he tried to maneuver his tank out of harm's way.
"I got you covered Mario" Said Tamunshin as she took aim, firing her cannon twice. Both shots failed to make it to the orchard however.

The rest of the team opened fire on the orchard. The trees shuddered from the hail of bullets peppering the scene. Cerapa stood up and open fired with his auto cannon, two shells fell short of the orchard while the third, surprisingly, slammed into the back of the tank, taking out it's tail lights and shrouding the tank in smoke.
"What the hell was that?" Stammered Mario as his rear view camera went to static.
"Shit this thing can kick, sorry Mario" Said Cerapa

"OK that's it, Mario, take out that alien once and for all" I shook my head, rubbing it. unbelievable that no one could hit the thing.
"On it commander" Mario replied as he lined up his shot. With an efficient puff of smoke out the exhaust of the tank's weapon system, a rocket took off towards the orchard. The rocket connected with the little grey man. A millisecond later it exploded in a massive ball of fire, vaporizing most of the orchard along with the flare, plunging the area into darkness.

"excellent shot Mario, Cerapa, remind me to have a word with you about your training when you return"
"Yes commander" Cerapa moaned embarrassed.
"OK RAM 1 and Mr. Apples, get through that hedge and surprise anything hiding behind it"
"Alright, help me out here" Mr. Apples turned to the hedge and started breaking it apart until he and RAM 1 could pass through it. What they saw behind the hedge wall came as a surprise to both.

"I think we found the ufo." Stated RAM 1 as he approached the side of the downed craft.
"It looks pretty fucked up, courtesy of our jet fighters." Laughed Mr. Apples.
"Shit there's another one!" Myroc yelled as he ducked for cover, an explosion roared in the air, sending shrapnel into the field. Onlookers saw a large explosion much like the rocket. The little gray man shielded itself as it was caught in the blast, knocking him to the ground in a green bloody mess.

"Myroc are you OK?! Respond!" I called through the channel. I was met with silence. No one made a sound, each ping on the radar technician's computer thudded like a nail being hammered into a coffin.
"I'm ok *cough* just got the wind knocked out of me *cough cough*. The relief was audible.

RAM 1 and Mr. Apples circled the downed ufo slowly. "This thing took a beating commander, its full of cracks and fractures."
"I think I found the door here." Stated RAM 1 through the channel. "There are two parallel seams in this section of the wall."

Mr. Apples and RAM 1 arrange themselves on either side of the entrance, pausing to nod to each other before pushing on the door. It opens far to loudly for their liking. They steel their nerves and charge in, covering the internal of the ufo with their weapons.

"It's empty commander, full of smoke too *cough*." complained Mr. Apples.
"Good work, get out of there and secure the area until the clean up crew arrives. Good work X-Com, mission accomplished!"

-edit: I totally forgot to spell check this post and I also forgot to add what happened to the third alien, a common error in which I knew what happened but the readers did not.

Hey, a promotion!

Also, I was playing X-COM for a bit earlier and realized that a character such as the one I gave you is impossible to use. If he's got a stun rod, only use him on missions that require capture of a Grey. There's no point in sending an almost-unarmed guy out instead of someone with a laser rifle.

actually your half right. a stun rod alone is kind of a waste of a soldier but put a pistol in his other hand and you have a nice assault soldier. at long range you can get 1-2 aimed shots or about 4 snap shots off (or some other combination). At medium range you can get about 2 auto shots off. And at close range you can step up to an alien facing away and knock it out with very little TU cost, allowing you to auto shot another alien if it was facing you and hiding behind the other alien (an otherwise "Holy Fucking Shit They Cheat" scenario)

just wanted to post a bit of a status report to the readers:

H Barbarossa:
kills: +1
Time Units: +3
Stamina: +3
Firing Accuracy: +1
Strength +2
Rank Up!: Sergeant

Mario:
kills: +1
------------------------------------
People without a dood:
DFNewb - I do have a plan to incorporate your idea of conspiracy into x-com, a nice bit of flare.

Warhammer 651 - before I forget, what does "dakka" mean again? rapid?

Ampersand - Waiting on next batch of soldiers and laser weapons

Archangel - Waiting on next batch of soldiers, you'll be the utility guy (motion detector, med kit, etc) until psi comes up. you're not going to be high priority for flying power suits if we get psi first (psi gets to sit back in the ship and mind fuck aliens)

Chatoicag - Waiting on the next batch of soldiers, nice back story, sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun.
--------------------------------
Now vote number 3: next research? lets get this settled ahead of time. I predict laser weapons but if we have a mindprobe from this mission I will vote for that. the sooner we get a gray leader the sooner we can work on the really long training times of psi.

also of note: I had taken pictures of people with their load out at the start of the mission, just annoyingly not everyone so i didn't show them. will do it for the next mission.

Laser weapons. Over everything else. This includes Plasma Weapons, because they take a godawful amount of man-hours to research.
