Hide half of the lunch out of sight; Culture molds in it.

You also can't hide stuff.

Spread half the lunch on to the rock mold wall.

Yeah, but then he'd just take the colour leaf and not let us out.

You attempt to break the monocle and kill yourself with the glass, but it appears to not have a lens.
You blame your poor eyesight for not noticing this in the first place.

What causes mold to grow? Could it indicate a weakened wall, that would fall apart merely from the ignition of the mold?

If it could grow, and yet be extremely dry, then it might indicate the way to escape alive.
Since there are cracks, maybe burning it would cause some bricks to fall out, if the mold had grown fully around them?

Well, if I was a minute faster.... Now it looks like I could have taken inspiration from that hint)

Rock mold feeds on mineral components found in the stone and secretes a moist ooze.
The lack of this ooze but the abundance of the mold suggests that it has eaten away at this mineral almost completely, but there are still trace quantities.

Well, it seems like you are trying as hard as possible to force the game to follow the path where the wall is burnt, so I say...

Light the match and thrown it away from the wall. Stomp it until it goes out. Then flaunt the leaf you managed to keep in the face of the next guard to pass. Oh, and insult his manhood and claim that you will poison the entire town.

Then realize that it wouldn't work, stop imagining your next move, and burn the ropewall.

Too bad rock mold doesn't really do anything.
The other prisoner doesn't know that. Therefore, if we tell him he will explode if he eats the mold, he should be able to knock down the weakened wall with his exploding.

Edit: Or it could somehow cause a build-up of methane in his gut. Then do something with the match; light his farts, maybe?

I wonder...

Were those even real guards?

Could this entire conveniant setup be designed as a *test* to see if you are worthy of joining a group?

The fact that there is only one wall, and it is conveniantly mouldy....

I suggest that you have the leaf ready, in case the mold won't light immediately, you can use the leaf to transfer the flame.

What are the chances of having a match and a leaf in a situation where you can use it to escape.

Yes, we should go straight, stop trying to buck the system, and do our time honestly. After all, we were committing crimes. It's hardly fair for us to go free after that.

Crimes? I find it highly unlikely that less than a day after we invented hallucinogenic potions in some backwater shantytown, the king rushed an amendment against this highly specific variety of drug to prevent two or three people from getting high.

I'm starting to think we should start up a Liberal Crime Squad forum game.
