Oh my gosh! I just had the best astronomy idea ever - inspired by a poster above. And it ties into the mythology arc, not the magic one!

Tie astronomy into worldgen. Have a randomly generated astronomical system. In some worldgens, the world is flat. In others the world is the center of the universe, in other we have a heliocentric system. In some, the stars are stars, in others they are holes in the celestial sphere/great old ones, or whatever.

It wouldn't take that much effort to actually do, just a few lines of c code since its all fluff, but could potentially influence what form the gods take/their naming conventions and sphere. Depending on the astronomy, in some worlds the gods could be relatively greek-like, in others they could tend to be more force-oriented...or in others they could be Great Old One style horrors to be kept away with bloody sacrifices. So what sort of names and personalities the gods have could be tied into the astronomy.

I picked Astronomy, Psychology and Geography. Mainly because I'm curious as to whether or not adding attitudes to civilizations regarding certain astronomical factors will affect how they behave. For instance, when there is a full moon and the weather is clear, creatures without night-vision will be more active. Whether or not pregnancy cycles depend on certain days or astronomical factors (All 3 of a particular world's moons are new and they have fertility rites...)

Chemistry, Psych/Socio, and Genetics.

Chemistry is just awesome. Who doesn't want a Dwarven Alchemist preparing liquid fire to load into weapon traps? Could our Dwarves get Greek fire, or flaming wooden bolts/arrows?

Could we make brainwashed Dwarf zombies? Where do a dwarf's preferences and personality traits come from (or where will they come from?) How do inter-Dwarven relationships work? What will the future social structure be like? Not to mention Genetics... Will I be able to breed a race of grey-skinned, red-eyed Dark Dwarves?

Much looking forward to this Dwarf Talk.

Definitely ecology.  I think Toady could integrate a simplified Lotka-Volterra equation to help simulate population change at the local level.  I'm not sure where the concept of carrying capacity fits in according to Toady's design, but that would also be useful (especially if it allowed for differing views on population intensification and agricultural production a la Malthus and Boserup).

I also voted for meteorology, because I think weather and climate are intimately related.

Physics, genetics and ecology. All thigns that seem like they could greatly effect how future DF works.

Astronomy being on there really piques my interest. My favorite subject and usually a pretty interesting part of the mythology of fantasy settings. Also would be neat to see spheres, planes and deities as applied to astronomical objects (if applied). Although, for a game based around a subterranean race, it seems kind of an odd inclusion =P A great inclusion!

Botany, because the only mods I've used extensively were to spice up that area. The game ships comes with a great many plants to grow and gather, but the new poisons and wound-treatment options make me very curious about the uses of plants in the next version.

Physics, because...........explosions.

edit: time traveled to 2025 there for a second.

I voted for the ones that are the most screwed up right now.

Physics: An entire mountain can hang from a single tile of sand

Biology: Dwarves only need to eat 4 times a year but can work for weeks on end. They also have no bathrooms.

Psychology and sociology: My entire family just got raped, murdered and eaten but my socks are just so fucking awesome that I don't care. They menace with spikes of leather!

Physics. A square really needs to be defined size/volume wise. This way we could finally get the discussion around having multi-z-level and multi-tile objects and creatures going.

Medicine~ We're getting a nice new healing system, it would be nice to know what tools our dwarves are getting.

Chemistry~ I'd like to hear if our dwarves will eventually be able to create compounds, and mixtures.

Genetics~ Will it be possible to breed superdwarves? Maybe.. Maybe.

Put the three together, and it's a recipe for mad scientist dwarves! Huzzah!

Linguistics! I want to learn more about the language development - it coincides with my current interests.

Otherwise, I must hear more on this ... Medicine... you speak of.
And then Physics - I want barrels, damn you! TUMBLING BARRELS OF EXPLOSION!(Freeman not included)

For the purpose of Dwarf Archaeologist, I'd like to hear about palynology, dendrochronology and the dating of coprolites (well, for some folks, they might actually date coprolites in an entirely un-archaeological or paleontological manner).

Chemestry, for more machines and traps... AND EXPLOSIONS!!! 'Oke Urist, lets blow that Adamantine out...'
Biology, finally dwarven bathrooms (allways asked myself what they do with it in their mines... chasm it? No wonder the Batmen are so pissed!)
