Temporary "Bring Drink To Wounded" fix?

I'm building a fortress near the ocean, which means zero drinkable water. I know some day we'll be able to work around that, and de-salinify water/drink from the ponds, etc. And we can live on alcohol for now.

The problem is that wounded dwarves can't drink alcohol for some reason. I've lost about ten tough dwarves so far because their broken arm couldn't heal before they died of dehydration, and my legendary miner (only remaining miner actually)/broker/manager just took a plummet and broke his lower right arm. He's superdwarvenly tough, so I expect him to last until at least one more season change... but I doubt he'll pull through it.

It would be cool if we could get a temporary fix, but I suppose trying to code dwarves to bring alcohol in a bucket might not be an easy thing.

As a sort of stupid temporary fix, letting dwarves get out of bed to grab alcohol might be proper...it ruins suspension of disbelief if men without working legs hop across the fortress for a bit of the sauce, but the alternative is a bunch of dead dwarves.

There's a utility on the wiki for healing limbs.

Yeah, I have a thing against cheating.

I've lost about six other dwarves due to not having any sand on the map, but I haven't swapped in a sand tile with a utility.

Could they reach the booze if you built a booze stockpile right next to the bed?  I don't think they can, but it would be nice if a sick dwarf could reach over and drink from a barrel right next to his head.

I tried. I tried even deconstructing the bed and putting a beer stockpile right on top of the dwarf. But an injured dwarf generates "bring water" tasks and does not try to drink by himself. It's probably one of the things a neural net would fix, but I'd suppose it would break a lot more than that.  :p

And since the new version is up, maybe try updating and removing his bed?
