Bioshock+Dwarf Fortress...?
« on: February 23, 2010, 01:07:09 am »

TheStanman had an epic idea for a dwarven Rapture, so I was wondering if making Splicer-like creatures possible. Maybe a way for them to only consume ADAM, which would be a type of alcohol, using the [ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT] tag? Post some ideas or something, I want dwarf Splicers D:

Oh, and I think I know how to use Plasmids. Crossbows (that would be called something witty) that fire certain bolts depending on the plasmid, like incinerate or winter blast.

EDIT: Just had the idea of using ADAM as an extract...

Are you going to make it be from sea slugs like bioshock?

I think I could do both, like an extract from sea slugs and people, not so sure on people.

Sorry about the double post, but is there a way to make a diving suit/something similar? I'd like the dwarves to have to go out and catch the slugs. Oh, and Little Sisters+Big Daddies :D

Even if dwarves are modded to not drown, they will freak out when water gets in their way.

Splicers could be given the Curious Beast Guzzler tag.  No idea how well that works.

Extracting from moving creatures causes problems, so I think its disabled exept for vermin.  And if it works there are just all kinds of issues with things being in containers, hopefully to be fixed next update.  I believe you can't get them in or out, except for hardcoded instances.

:( much modding support should be added in the next version though

Edit: Building a steel and glass city under the sea is doable though.

just make the sea slug so that it is a amphibious vermin that only gens around seas, also if you don't mind slicers not dropping body's you could mod them to drop something that you could process into ADAM, as a note though the drop would have to be a type of plant so that you could brew ADAM instead of getting a useless stack of liquid in your smelter. just make the plant so it doesn't grow anywhere.

...Call the plant or whatever "Angel", so when you send your "Little Sisters" in to gather it you can squeal giddily about imagining them saying "I see an angel Mr. bubbles"...and go running off to "stab it", and turn it into "ADAM".

Alright, so...I think I'm going to begin development tomorrow, but things will be slow because I'm a master at procrastinating, and have school and stuff to do.

SO, If you have ideas or something, post them and I'll try and figure something out.

I think that would be [PREFSTRING:ADAM] as in,

Thug McSplicer likes Sea Slugs for their ADAM.

So, a few questions...
What do the bonecarn, mundane, homeoftherm:x, and layer:x tags do?
Is there a way to make the houdini splicers use only plasmids (special crossbows that fire "bolts" of that plasmid, like incinerate)?
And how would I go about making these different bolts?

Bonecanrs don't only eat bones, the tag makes them able to eat bones in addition to other things they can eat.

BONECARN implies the CARNIVORE tag, so they will eat meat and bones but refuse plants.
HOMEOTHERM sets its average body temperature
MUNDANE determines whether it is from earth, for age-naming purposes

It should be pretty fun though.

Alright, thanks. Now, how would I make big daddies protect little sisters (which I gave a prefstring:adorable :3)? And make the little sisters run from enemies, or is that standard?
