Questionable Content
« on: February 22, 2010, 04:04:44 am »

The plot centers on Marten Reed, an indie rock aficionado; his roommate, Faye Whitaker; and Faye's boss, Dora Bianchi. Supporting characters include employees of the local coffee shop and anthropomorphized personal computers. QC's storytelling style combines romantic melodrama, sitcom, humor about indie rock music, and sexual or scatological humor. The artistic style has notably changed over the lifetime of the comic, as Jacques has been constantly refining his drawing methods. Whereas earlier strips were focused at a niche audience of indie music fans, the comic has since become more story- and character-driven.

"Something people do not often realize is that the world in which QC takes place is considerably stranger than our own. You'd think that with all the little talking robots running around everywhere that this would be obvious, but I am consistently surprised at how often people take it for granted."

Plot? I remember giving up on this comic years ago when I realized it was never going to get any better than plain mediocre.

I'm guessing it's changed though, hence the new artstyle.

Something about this comic always put me off. I dunno if it was because I was never into indie rock or this particular brand of melodrama, but every time I stumbled upon it I would check a few strips, try to find the funny, then leave.

I do admire the changing artwork though. A bit more dramatic than the art of other comics I've seen improve.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

It's turned into an okayish slice-of-life comic lately... with comical robots. Suffers from extreme wordiness on occasion and nothing really interesting happens but if you liked Friends and thought it needed more miniature sassy robots, QC is for you.

Oh yeah and Jacquues has a hard-on for indie bands and hates mainstream music. It shows up in the comic a lot.

I heavily dislike mainsteam music too... I do enjoy this comic but mainly cause I've been reading it for ages.

I don't listen to indie rock though.

I find this is be a rather weak Friends, but of similar vain.

But yea, its alright. There isnt anything I find here to write home about, and also platitudes on the improvement of the drawing.

Generally, I saw it as following the pattern: An event happens! Now we talk about it for the next seven or eight strips, when it's not really all that interesting.

Or: We're building up to an event! You can see it coming from a mile away! We're still building up! God, how many strips has it been? We're still building up!

I hate webcomics so much, except for MTTS, PBF, XKCD and Penny Arcade, although I don't read the latter.

I've always enjoyed it, although it's quality has slipped.

The best webcomic going by miles is still the The Order Of The Stick.

Oh that reminds me, I'm pretty far in the stick now.

On topic so this post isn't useless:

I've heard that something crazy happens panel #500?
I haven't checked because I'm afraid of spoilers.

Not particularly.

600 though is legendary. It's worth reading it all.

That goes to anyone who likes humour. Read Order of the Stick! Especially if you're a d20 player, you will love it.
