Alright so I read your rant Jackrabbit.

When I first posted all I was trying to say was that you have no sense of humor.

It was in fact you who started the argument. After Cthulhu responded to my post I told him that he would probably enjoy the show more if he didn't obsess over plot. Then you come in and start to yell at me for having a juvenile sense of humor and that Im throwing shit into the ether or whatever the hell that means.

then this happens:
Quote
You, CowOfDoom, seem incapable of believing people could possibly find something you like bad, and then set about trying to defend it with claims that are a hair's breadth from "You just don't get it!"
unknown to me you had decided to change topic from family guy to my argument.

Although I do admit I didn't respond to everything becuase I wasn't really being that serious, I might as well now seeing how much attention this got. Im sorry if I have to cut your wall of text up into little bits becuase otherwise there is no other way I can respond to it(I know it's ugly! :-X)

Quote
You also didn't explain why we were wrong and how we were all stuck up about it, apart from a snide comment that I'm not sure you didn't write before even reading the thread, because people clearly explained why they didn't like it, and they certainly didn't say that they love watching it but also hate it (and could you please explain how the hell you figured out/made up that little oxymoron?).
I want to make it clear that I never said anyone here was wrong. I just said they were being snobs about it. As for my quote I guess I wasn't being specific. It was just the general feeling of the thread.

Quote
why the hell do I have to put up with your drive-by disagreement? I wanted you to provide clarification and provide it now.
I was just saying my opinion. Im sorry it's not the same as yours.

I heard a drive-by disagreement joke once on Family Guy so this is kind of funny. :P

Quote
So, mainly to prevent you claiming that I had no idea what I was talking about (don't pretend you wouldn't, you're the person who claimed that 'you guys just don't know how to have fun'), I decided to tell you exactly why I don't like Family Guy. I do not have anything to prove (and once again could you explain your reasoning behind that bizarre little statement?)
And so you did. Alot. I have no problem with that.
As for my statement it was a response to your post where you said
Quote
Maybe I'm on said horse because I can see Family Guy for what it really is. Entertainment for Frat Boys who've stayed up all night and are now so wasted they'd laugh at a motionless lemon and for 10 year old children who think it's 'edgy' because of the sex and the tried-and-true
Get it now? You want to prove that your better then frat boys and 10 year olds.

Quote
I simply wanted to make it clear to you I didn't just 'not know how to have fun'. If I seemed particularly vindictive or harsh about it (and yes, I think that I did), it's because I'm currently taking the day off due to pain and inflammation in a place which, in a perfect world, the words pain and inflammation would never apply, ever. So my temper's a bit short right now and I am in no mood to pussyfoot around here.
Nah it's cool. We all let anger get the best of us sometimes. Plus if I was inflamed there I would be pretty mad too! You did pretty good cause I thought you were trying to be nice about it. :)

Quote
Even now you're not responding to this argument, or even trying to explain why you think we're wrong for not liking Family Guy (apparently being critical is wrong? I'll add that to the list of things I'd like you to explain), but instead you focus on how much I don't like Family Guy (which is not overmuch, I feel) and how this is, for some reason, a dreadful thing (and I'll add that to the list too).
And with my recent explanation you can probably now see that I wasn't saying you were wrong but that you were being a snob about it. You have pretty much fabricated me saying that you were wrong in the heat of the moment.

I think the passion of your argument just got the better of you. ;D

Family guy is hilarious.

Your all like "Yah sure I laughed at it and had a grand old time, but the show is really stupid and the jokes dont go along with the plot so I dont like it."

Seriously you people need to get off your high horses.

OH I SEE! apparently having a different sense of humor than cow means you have no sense of humor.

Yes but having a different sense of humor is completely different.

That is right! You are a victim! Of a sinister, evil jackrabbit!

SEE!?!?! Jackrabbit hates fratboys and ten year olds! he really is evil!

Okay, first off, here's the problem:

It was in fact you who started the argument. After Cthulhu responded to my post I told him that he would probably enjoy the show more if he didn't obsess over plot. Then you come in and start to yell at me for having a juvenile sense of humor and that Im throwing shit into the ether or whatever the hell that means.

then this happens:
Quote
You, CowOfDoom, seem incapable of believing people could possibly find something you like bad, and then set about trying to defend it with claims that are a hair's breadth from "You just don't get it!"
unknown to me you had decided to change topic from family guy to my argument

This was never about Family Guy. Family Guy provided a background for my argument which was (and this bit's important) always about your behavior. Not your sense of humor (although you don't seem to mind ragging on mine. Another oxymoron, especially after you claim it was just a case of 'differing opinions'), I want to make that very clear. I didn't change anything, and the argument never jumped from one topic to another; you just didn't catch on fast enough. Here's my problem, in brief:

You (you) have a horrendously irritating tendency to jump into a thread, and disagree with the side that holds the majority (majority sometimes even meaning everyone - but not all the time) and then act like the only reason our opinions are the way they are is because (and this is something that would have set off an epic rant in that thread as well had I been in the mood):

ED (a) is too hilarious to not be funny.

You guys just dont know how to have fun. (b)

Compare that to this:

Family guy (a) is hilarious.

Your all like "Yah sure I laughed at it and had a grand old time, but the show is really stupid and the jokes dont go along with the plot so I dont like it."

Seriously you people need to get off your high horses. (b)

Not only is that second quote nearly exactly the same, in some ways it's worse. You claim that (a) is hilarious but you don't explain why. Come to think of it, you still haven't. For either. Then you proceed to claim that the people who have an opinion that differs to yours are wrong (and yes, if you provide a contrary position and what you believe is the reason the other side has their opinion and make it very clear you think the reason a foolish one, you're saying you think we're wrong and no amount of skirting around the subject will change that) because of (b). (b), in both cases, is a claim that people don't enjoy it because... what? Because they're all too stuck up to just get it? That's ridiculous. It's confusing, there's no sense in it. If someone does not like something you do like, then it stands to reason that they have a reason. It's even more jarring when they present that reason in the thread, which you proceed to skip over and then make up an excuse that supports your ego. That's my problem. So focus on rebutting that, without claiming that I'm stuck up, if you please. Moving right along.

Now, I've covered why you did say that you thought we were wrong no matter how much you want to pretend you didn't, so here's my main issue. 'As for my quote I guess I wasn't being specific. It was just the general feeling of the thread.'

What.

Look, point me to a post where someone said "Family Guy is hilarious! But I don't like it." and maybe I'll accept that that was the general feeling of that person but I can't find a single post (apart from your declaration that people felt this way) that claimed that they laughed heartily at Family Guy and still hated it. Once again, you've made up a foolish opposing argument to make your own look better. I know you seem to enjoy building strawmen but could you not do it right in front of me?

As for my statement it was a response to your post where you said
Quote
Maybe I'm on said horse because I can see Family Guy for what it really is. Entertainment for Frat Boys who've stayed up all night and are now so wasted they'd laugh at a motionless lemon and for 10 year old children who think it's 'edgy' because of the sex and the tried-and-true
Get it now? You want to prove that your better then frat boys and 10 year olds.

The day I need to prove that I'm better than 10 year olds and frat boys is the day you can put me to bed with a shovel, quite frankly. This is another case of what appears to be a trend with you: misinterpreting me. That was a part of my 'This is my valid argument for why Family Guy isn't funny, learn from it' rant, and you acknowledge that and yet still try and pull meanings out of it that don't exist. That was my assumption as to what the target audience is for Family Guy and if it seems harsh then... well, I've already explained why that was the case. I believe Family Guy is tailor made for people who don't look for much in their TV, and that's fine because I know that's not me. I don't need to prove I'm better than that particular demographic, Christ no. I was just exaggerating. Of course it's not just 10 year olds and frat boys that watch the show. But even if it was, saying so doesn't mean I think they're better than me and that I'm suffering from some sort of inferiority complex.

That, I think, covers it. Obligatory tl;dr:

Your method and manor are both rude, confusing and in most cases, irrelevant to the topic at hand. If you want to present your case in a way people'll take seriously, make a rational argument, don't claim the other side is anything (snobbish, devoid of humor, ect) without at least a modicum of proof and for God's sake, read the thread beforehand and make sure you understand it.

Dark please don't jump into this argument, especially with a post that doesn't do anything for the arguments but tell cow that you want to fight him tot he death  :-\

This is true. No need to be excessively rude about it, not that I don't appreciate your assistance.

The most terrible thing about Family Guy isn't the show, it's the fans.  You know what I'm talking about.  The ones who quote it all day and act like they're the ones being funny.  The Hangover is really bad for this too.

Why so serious?

Yeah, I can't see that being the film/shows fault in itself though, it's just popular.

The weird thing is that I find watching Family Guy to feel very much like that.  It's almost like the writers are just throwing out quotes everywhere.

My 11 year old brother does that, but he does it out of context with the conversation.

I do it every once and a bit, if I find something very striking. Though usually not in a manner to convey humor to other just to give myself a chuckle.

What's really annoying is when the steal jokes under the guise of "references"

I can see paying homage to a comedy, but when you frame-by-frame copy the Calming the Lady Down scene from Airplane, that's no longer a reference, that's stealing the joke.
