Laughing once does not "I laughed at it and had a grand old time" make.

I think I laughed at the bit where Peter fell down the stairs.

Just the once, though.

EDIT: Also, Cow, you do this so often (I love <insert thing here> and therefore you are all wrong and foolish) and provide no elaboration or proof as to why it is good or even why you think it's so good that I can't tell if you're trolling or if you really believe that. And if you do, then I'm kinda worried about you.

What, do you mean 'obsessed with the plot because a show needs a good plot to stand up on its own, unless it's a stand up comedy' has a plot or are you just once again throwing shit into the ether without thinking because you have no idea how to justify your point?

Simpsons has a plot, Southpark, King of the Hill has a plot, fucking American Dad has a plot, so Seth can actually make one if he tries really hard. Family Guy has a little distraction in the background so it can make annoying popculture references and unrelated jokes that do nothing to further the episode.

Thats exactly my point. Stop watching the show like some kind of literary critic and just enjoy it for what it is.

Yeah and that works for them, non-sequiturs work for family guy.

Also lighten up a bit, were talking about a cartoon.

There's no accounting for taste, I suppose.

Also lighten up a bit, were talking about a cartoon.

I take cartoons very seriously and therefore resent that statement.

But that's the main problem. How the hell am I supposed to enjoy something when the show treats me like an idiot who'll giggle when they throw a dozen unrelated examples of random violence and people acting like idiots at me that have no real point? And then you tell me to 'get off my high horse'. Maybe I'm on said horse because I can see Family Guy for what it really is. Entertainment for Frat Boys who've stayed up all night and are now so wasted they'd laugh at a motionless lemon and for 10 year old children who think it's 'edgy' because of the sex and the tried-and-true (sarcasm should be apparent):
'Oh my God look at that man stealing things!'
'You think just because that persons <insert ethnicity here> they steal things? That's horrible!'
Haha get it he's being racist without meaning to be haha. I swear I've seen that joke pop up like a dozen times, but that was when I was ten and thought it was 'edgy'.

I'm not a fucking 10 year old, so if the show wants to aim for the lowest common denominator, don't whine when I call it out on it.
But that's one thing I can give to Family Guy. They don't whine, they laugh at their own stupidity and I can respect that in a roundabout way.

You, CowOfDoom, seem incapable of believing people could possibly find something you like bad, and then set about trying to defend it with claims that are a hair's breadth from "You just don't get it!"

Jack, take a moment and remember who you're arguing with. Then ask yourself why.

I refuse to let the stupidity of the argument deter me from pointing out the stupidity of the argument. It's kind of zen, really.

Of course I fully expect Cow to say 'I'll be the bigger man and refuse to even acknowledge whether I was right or wrong, but instead make a show of stepping down, complete with a snide comment about how I am the bigger man, to avoid having to make anything resembling a rational argument'.'

I think we can count on him to not make a rational argument anyway, which is my point.

Well, I think I've sort of exhausted my rage-pool anyway. So until he manages to refill it, I think I'm done here, yeah.

You'd be better off arguing with a door. At least they try to make their arguments convincing. Well in some twisted door logicy way but still.

the show treats me

You assume the show is treating you at all.  Clearly you're not the target audience.  Ignore it, as you have ignored so many past and present shows.  :P

You're getting better at this all the time.  Might I interest you in a career in politics?  That exchange summarizes my entire field of study.

Anyway, Family Guy.  I enjoy it, but as I've made clear elsewhere, I have a surprisingly (even to me) broad tolerance for what I might call "intellectual crap" in entertainment.  I lost interest in Family Guy, and the Simpsons and South Park and King of the Hill, a long time ago, but I can chuckle when I catch an episode.  I'm a sucker for self-referential humor, and every once in a while Family Guy manages a surprisingly sharp episode plot, or turns a tired old morality play on its head.

Doors are harder to argue with, actually. They just turn solid and I walk right into them.

I know. Doesn't mean I can't call it out on being so low-brow. As for ignoring it, well, my first post? Would have been my last if Cow hadn't tried his patented "I like it so you are all wrong!" argument. I have friends coaxing me into watching the show so often (and really the show doesn't bother me to the point of rage, come on) that I found myself in a good position to refute him. Admittedly it wasn't hard.

I'd say your approval fills me with shame, but who am I kidding? We are all sons of bitches. And we love it.
