You purchase:
Two Companies of Regulars
1 Company of Mercs (Armed with FN FALs)
2 Militia (Armed with the durable yet inaccurate AK-47. Oh and recoil)
Several Bunkers
Rapier AA
_______
Remaining: 0$

Police are coming, send the troops you want to use to fight them and the ones you want to sit back/be reinforcements.

Ask the police in a respectable tone what the problem seems to be.

A very pissed off Police Officer (You kidnapped him) says:
"The problem is you wankers got western australia to secede and you assassinated Ken Michael, the damn governor of Western Australia!"
You let him go, seeing that one police officer won't do much.

The leader of the merc group walks in front of you as you were gonna shoot the man, but fortunately he has bodyarmor.
"Ack!
Now that's over, is me and my men gonna take out those cops?"

Send the Mercs to fight the cops, with the Militia as support.

(Heads) The Mercs get the high ground, plus the fact that there are a bunch of rocky outcroppings makes it a helluva good place for cover and taking out exposed foes.

(Tails) The police have noticed your approach, and therefore have equipped themselves with better gear like AR-15s and FN SPR (Sniper Rifle). (Police have upgraded to Heavily Armed Police, which are essentially equal to half a militia regiment)

(Heads) Luckily they didn't have enough time to dig in.

(Tails) The police set a few ambushed already. Several mercs have been already.

Base Number: 71
+10 because your forces have the better ground.
-10 Due to your forces being outnumbered by decently prepared forces (It is unlikely for Mercs or Regulars to withstand something similar to 2.5 Regiments of Militia)
+10 due to the fact they are not entrenched.
-15 due to ambushes.
Remaining number: 66

Your mercs are able to kill or rout most of the police, albeit with some losses. The victory heightens your followers opinion of you although.

And now, economy.
Taxes: Set it up now.
Resources: Natural Gas, 50$. Coal, 50$. Minerals, 100$. (Sadly, your state does not have the uranium deposits unlike Queensland or Victoria)

We have $0 now, correct? So we can't buy any resources?
What do you mean by "Set it up now"? Shall we say how much we should tax the population? I vote 70% of GDP.

Also, could we get some sort of ranking of weapons? How effective are better weapons compared to better troops?

Resources means resources we have now, and how much money we rake in with them

Ak47 is probably the cheapest but a pretty bad gun to use, use an AK-74, it's like a lower grade M16 or FN FAL.

FN FAL and M16 are pretty much the same good weapon.

Steyr AUGs and F88 Austeyrs are pretty much the same as the above...

AR-15s are like Ak-74s. Except they're the civilian version of the M16.

Police and Heavily Armed Police are used in quelling riots and other things, but could temporarily hold off militia and regulars.

Ah, I see. So FN FAL/M16/Steyr AUG/F88 Austeyr > AR-15/AK-74 > AK-47?

So... What does "Set it up now" mean? And resources give us that amount per turn?

Yep.
And by Set It Up Now, I mean set your taxes up. How much?

Taxes: 0% below arbitrary cost of living value total income from all wages/shares/bonuses/perks based on average market value in the case of non-monetary payments. 50% thereafter, no exceptions.

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. But I think we need to set a static amount... I think 60%.
