Yaddy1: What /kind/ of mac? Was any DF version ever not slow? And what GPU?

Armok's fist: Close DF. *Then* edit interface.txt. Or just copy the one in the zipfile back.

Oh, and FWIW, to delete a key-binding in the ingame editor you press backspace with it selected. It could use some on-screen explanations, I know.

Hi, i've been trying to run df on linux using textmode and connecting to ssh. Unfortunately there is some problem with the character encoding because i get all useless symbols and the screen features (in df) aren't properly aligned. I've tried konsole, gnome-terminal and xterm, and i've made sure the encoding was set to en_US.UTF-8 on both sides using the LANG env variable. I've even tried it on the same machine, connecting to localhost, and it still doesn't work.

Can anyone help?

Text-mode is a work in progress, so that kind of thing is unfortunately likely to happen for a while.

Can you try in urxvt?

5200?  There's your problem!

Edit... not trying to be so cruel sounding... but did you try some non-standard modes?

I figure I should tell you guys what I've been doing the last two days, namely arranging to be able to take this picture: http://brage.info/~svein/df.png
I'm goin to go and be the sour pumpernickel here and point out that DF's graphics are glitched in your shot: the top line partially repeats.

I'm guessing that's why its a work in progress....?

According to the IRC text in that screenshot, Baughn linked people to the screenshot before taking it.

Baughn, why don't you share your time machine with the rest of the class?

I suspect that Dwarf Fortress in TEXT mode is outputting UCS-4 or similar, because it seems to be using 4 bytes per character, and urxvt brags about UCS-2 and UCS-4 support.

Bug I've found which may have been present in d17 but I didn't catch/notice it:

During World generation, the area names aren't being erased before something else is printed which is shorter in length.  For example, let's say the following area names are generated/printed in this order (each of these is on the *same line*):

Code: [Select]
The Hill of Volcanos
The Doused Land

What ends up getting printed is this:

Code: [Select]
The Hill of Volcanos
ThThe Doused Land

You get the idea, I think.  :-)  If not I can easily make a video of the problem.

I got urxvt running under Mac OS X - it still shows the same issue.

However, the "grayed out" options in the menu text now appear.

Seems like you can't run this without alsa libs...
I've tried with the different sound output options and even disabled sound in the init.txt file but it doesn't start and outputs this:
Code: [Select]
AL lib: alsa.c:907: no playback cards found...
AL lib: alsa.c:981: no capture cards found...
dwarfort.exe: src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c:863: BuildDeviceList: Assertion `devIdx < numDeviceNames' failed.

Can you get rid of this dependency to ALSA? It's quite annoying... :(

And an other thing when i try to compile the git HEAD with scons it doesn't seem to have a zlib.pc file. Shouldn't that be generated with a nice configure script?
Code: [Select]
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
Package zlib was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `zlib.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'zlib' found

Technically it's a dependency on openal, not alsa, but sure.

Not touching the sound card at all if sound is set to off is definitely a thing I should be doing.
