I'm going to play around with adventure mode for a while. Maybe mod in a new creature or two. Try out arena mode. Then, when I've played my turn in a succession game and finished the DF Masters 3, I'll probably start up a community game; my excuse not to for the past few months has always been ''If I start now, I'll have to give up once the new version is released!''.

That's what's currently keeping me from downloading the current version... I don't wanna get all into a nice fortress and basically have to start over when the new version comes out.

Test arrows against armor in arena mode because of the massive changes in the combat and material system. One bowgoblin, one average-skilled dwarf with steel chain, and off we go. I must know how well the changed combat system handles such fights.

Hm.... maybe not.

Make a "smasher" workshop that accepts rocks or blocks, requires a bag, and produces sand bags. And then mine out all the rock and reconstruct the level entirely out of green glass.

Maybe not...

Set up a dragon-puss factory? But how to collect it... Hmm...

I know! Combine nobles' quarters with the dwarf-injuring-device! Now nobles serve a purpose - skilling up doctors!

I think I'll create a much more complex fortress than I normally do, seperating the populace into castes and clans, forming a massive city where people stay seperated from each other based on those two, from slums to manors between dwarves.

Possibly followed by trying to make an edict that any elf traders who come in must report to "The Barber" to get a shave.  And if they refuse, possibly instigated an elven siege.

Play a couple of fortresses, mess around with arena mode, run a bunch of adventurers, play around with the raws, then read about all cool stuff everyone else is doing.
