Speed problems
« on: February 20, 2010, 09:14:01 pm »

does adventure mode run irritatingly slow for anyone else? mine takes a third of a second or so between steps. I was wondering if there were any remedies, or if its just the downside of DF's complexities...

Are you sneaking or crouching, maybe missing a leg?  What does it say your speed is, anywhere between 900-1800 should be normal.

if you're not injured/ in a heavily populated area the more then likely your computer just isn't capable of handing df's massive processing phallus in your computer's soft warm processor. I suggest turning things like weather and temp off in the init.

Yeah its a general thing, not a limb-missing thing. I turned off temp and weather, its going a lot faster now, thanks for the help.
I suppose my computer just isn't ready to handle complicated things like clouds.

The problem is that it rechecks everything every single turn, so it adds alot of calculations to each step. In adventure mode it doesn't really matter either, since few people really notice the passing of seasons. Plus it means you can't instantly freeze in a river and drown.
