Related to the original topic and I can't be bothered to see if it's already been posted.

Response from the maker of the software that the administration is using to get their kiddie pr0n fix.

Good to be back on topic. So basically, the software used to "track theives" is dumb since there is a process for that. And the school somehow mistook eating candy for taking drugs.*headdesks repeatedly*

It's NOT slavery.  How do you expect to have a successful career if you don't attend anything educational?

How am I suppose to be become a Electrical Engineer if I don't finish High School and then College?

US school system isn't slavery, it's just stupidly giving school administrators the power to attempt to brainwash students by allowing them to have rules against holding certain opinions.  Pavlov's students, so to speak.

It doesn't always work the way Administrators want to, of course, because they all have different goals and different dispositions.  Some like free students, some are so strict that if nothing is being done wrong they feel they must make up rules to enforce.

Obviously you need SOME kind of schooling, but the authoritarian, super-disciplined, overly formal kind I have gotten the impression the US has sound pretty damn bad. Having kinds forced to treat their teachers as infallible, omniscient royalties lead to all sorts of trouble. (note, I don't actually know that much about US schools, so I could have gotten the wrong impression.)

Now, not that I have any experience whatsoever in the subject, but I think the US schools are totally selling our children into slavery.

What?  I've personally told a teacher to his face I didn't like the way he taught and nothing bad happened to me.

I'm no slave.

I always thought of school administration as a breeding ground for authoritarians, absolutists, fascists and police statists, because children are not considered people and therefore constitutional limitations on official power and abuse are negated.

Hey, teachers can't punish us however they please.  They just get to punish us for whatever they please.  And they have to be able to justify it.

There are teachers and staff that want to be treated like that, but for everyone of them there are at least 30 who aren't. There are lots of teachers who admit that they can be wrong and don't know everything. We aren't being sold into slavery. Incidents like this are rare for a reason.

There's been a huge rush of fresh, young, liberal teachers now as well.

Good for you. But its not the teachers that matter, its the school board that has absolute authority to set policy.

When I was in high school: they had just installed metal detectors, hired armed thugs, banned black clothing (unless you were one of the popular kids), banned piercings and tattoos (this means that a student with tattoos would be expelled and unable to receive education, period, no exceptions), banned "unnatural" hair color, banned all religious symbols except the cross, banned interracial dating, banned functional back packs (you ever tried to carry 30 lbs of books in a clear plastic bag?), banned medication (even life saving emergency inhalers for extreme asthma cases), they told me that I would not graduate till I was 21 because I didn't meet the attendance guidelines despite being officially medically handicapped with a permanent attendance exception and passing all classes with a grade of A or better, they also would not allow me to take a GED to extract myself from the situation for fear that others might be inspired to escape "reeducation".

It took a strongly worded letter from a relative who was a high ranking member of the Southern Baptist Convention to a state politician and then to the school board to allow me to get a GED and attend college at 17.

Holy shit. What is wrong with that school board!?

A: Mississippi.
B: It was shortly after the school shootings first started getting national media attention, so they had an excuse to "think of the children".
