That's... one way of putting it, I guess.  I will say that mandatory attendance stretches some constitutional definitions of assembly, although the obvious counterpoint would be that you can get private schooling or home schooling if you don't want the public one.

It's worth mentioning of course that things didn't always work that way.  Less than a century ago, school was purely optional.  Of course that was in a day when formal education wasn't necessary to be a functional member of society.

If you really wanted to, you could make the argument that the Constitution (or the 1st Amendment anyway) should protect your freedom to be an uneducated troglodyte.  But I would call that a stupid argument.

The point is, the fact that you are mandated to attend some form of educational institution from at least the ages of 6-16, and pass a certain level of judged competency along the way, means it's a matter of law that you have to at least try to pick up a semblance of analytical ability and socialization.  At the ultimate interpretation of the freedoms of speech and assembly (including the freedom to not be mandated to assemble), you could choose at six years old to never go to school or leave your house, and the (federal) government couldn't say squat.

But I think that's a ridiculous argument that I would never support the content of.  Just it's functional existence.

Tinker v Des Moines is the major case in this instance. This is about freedom and students, I'll probably be back later with minor in general.

Minor also have other more serve limits. Minor dont have the right to own fire arms, go into a free contract, ect...
