Minor have limited freedom of speech, and expression. Its can't violate whats not there. The school district was out of bounds for the suspension though, simply because it has limited power over student lives that don't involve the directly school (Such as if the group was promoting vandalism, or harm for the teacher, then it could punish those involved)  or school hours (As a truent student can be returned to her/his school or to a guardian).

I do know that the authoritarian fascist catholic scumbags who run the school do indeed give people long periods of isolation if they find you joining any facebook groups they disagree with.

Then again why would a student need a school laptop anyway? It sounds like a waste of school money if you ask me.

My writing speed on the computer naturally maxes out at 60 words per minute (as in, if I am typing normally)

My writing speed with a pen probably can hit a max of 10-15 words per minute for about five minutes before my wrist cramps.

I can't write fast enough to keep up with notes.

As for Spying on students... In this case I think the school should have actively told the students what they were and were not looking at. Even if they were just looking at their screens and not using a camera... it is something you tell people in advance.

Again, show me documents. I've lived in America for far more than 9 years. There's nothing I've ever heard of that abridges the rights of Citizens.

Remember that cow likes to argue for the sake of arguing, but is referring to a pretty common argument.

It's not that there's a written law saying students can't say this or that.  It's that public schools are functions of the government, and also have essentially unlimited power to punish students for saying specific things or holding  specific opinions that administrators don't like, on whatever blanket or spurious reasoning they can defend at a Parent/Teacher conference.

For that matter, there's all manner of state and local laws that empower schools to do such, which if carried all the way to a Supreme Court contest, would in word if not in deed, constitute a law abridging the freedom of speech and assembly.

Basically, it comes down to schools having all the power of managerial authority to make rules abridging speech that we normally allow in private organizations, despite the fact that (public) schools are absolutely government establishments.
