Before I read this.

Wouldn't the students realize the webcam is on?  Usually a light turns on next to the webcam so it can see.

Mine doesn't do that...

Also that is messed up... What you do in your home is your business not the school's.

They used a software that took pictures of the person who stole your laptop, so no.

 I can understand the ability to see what is on the screen. I'm somewhat cool with the ability of the school to monitor what is going on in the laptops they bought. However, the ability to see the surroundings of a laptop means they can access information they have no right to.

 So yeah, stay with the screen-reading software schools.

WTF? I'm okay with screen reading software, but using webcams to spy on students? That is a total invasion of privacy. The school does not need to know what we are doing when we are not at school.

Screen-reading is also an invasion of privacy.  If they're going to tell me what I can and can't do on their laptops, I'll just use my own.

Note that screen-reading is entirely different from screen-peeking.  If we're playing a split-screen game, your half is fair game.

Seriously, I look at the other guy's screen more than I look at my own.

Screen reading makes sense, it is the school's laptop, I think they have a right to see what is going the screen of something they bought. But they have no right to use the webcams to see what we are doing in our homes or anything like that.

Unless there is an assignment that I am supposed to do on that laptop only, it would gather dust. Anything I would use that for, I can do on my PC. And my PC is probably faster.
