B: It was shortly after the school shootings first started getting national media attention, so they had an excuse to "think of the children".

School shootings are bad, but they thought that gave them the right to run a dictatorship?!

Nadaka, some of that shit doesn't even have anything to do with shootings.  Banning religious symbols except for the cross and banning interracial dating, for one - I'm pretty sure that's illegal.  Most of the other stuff sounds dubious in legality, and still more of it down right unnecessary.  Why the hell do they need to worry about guns hidden in a backpack if the thing's already gone through a metal detector?

This is the problem with a lot of "states' rights!" type conservatives (Ron Paul, I'm looking in your direction). Leaving things like this up to the states results in regionalistic problems like this. See Ron Paul's "We the People Act", which would prevent the US Supreme Court from ruling on matters that occur within the states (which is a laughable concept in itself).

Anyways, I got "lucky" with my schools.  They aren't authoritarian, they are the other way around.  My school system doesnt give a shit.  The district once turned down half a million because they "Didn't want to re-do their budget".

My high school happens to be a high-ranking-in-the-nation school.  For special education, actually.  Which is really fucking funny because they tend to spend their money on lawyers so they can turn away all the special ed kids.  I've heard from kids and parents, that any special education plan is a huge fight, getting several groups involved, sending letters to every corner of the fucking state, and even then no lawyer in their right mind will touch my school district.  They like to spend their money on all of the over-achievers, and everyone else suffers.

If I felt like it I could make ten pages EASY of horror stories from my school from what they allow to happen in there with little-to-no reaction.

The victims here are students, children and young adults. If you are smart enough and care enough to speak out and fight the system, you are also smart enough to realize that you will personally loose everything in doing so. Speak out and be expelled, and you can't take the GED until you turn 18 (unless you can pull some strings). You can fight it out in court, but most kids won't receive support in doing so from their family. The best that could be hoped for is a Pyrrhic victory.

I could have gotten a lawyer and fought the school on their attendance policy, if I was willing to spend 5 to 10 years doing it, of course it would cost 10s to 100s of thousands of dollars in lawyers bills that I would have no way of paying. By then it wouldn't have mattered if I was vindicated. I took the easy way out, got my GED as early as I could and went to college.

My school is way cool. We have a guy who, in his official job capacity, is required to listen to students tirades and act upon them for 'the betterment of facilities and community'. They pay a guy for teenage girls to bitch him out 24/7 and then he has to actually listen so he can try and fix the 'problem'. Dude has balls of radiated brass encased within the sun to take that job.

There should be a law requiring every school to have one of those. who should be appointed by some independent organization.

I got pretty lucky with the school too.
It sucks in terms of ejumakashans, but it's pretty lenient.
The dress code is pretty much just four-inch inseam, two-inch straps, no midriff, and no harmful jewelry, but nobody really cares.
The security team is really only useful for breaking up fights and ferrying people on their golf carts.
I've brought my knife and leatherman to school on numerous occasions and absolutely nothing has happened.
It's also open-air with a helluva lot of buildings.
The "hallways" are pretty much just balconies on the second and third floor of some buildings and paved areas on the ground.

Or a finely honed ability to totally not give a shit.  Have you ever seen any evidence of him "acting upon complaints for the betterment of yadda yadda"?  Because I'm pretty sure most public schools have somebody with that in their job description, and do a fine job of rendering it completely meaningless.
