 I have wondered, how many people still play this?

 It is still wonderful for many reasons, but it appears that everybody has left after open sourceness made hacks crazy popular. Although that could just be because of how much crap the client handles as opposed to the server.

This is also a game where you compete instead of just troll peoples artwork as well. 
Minecraft is essentially this game, with all goals removed, and a block cloning hack put into it.

 Nonono, NRN, you have it backwards.

 Minecraft is a happy land of building and fun. Create massive cities with your friends, unless you are an OP. Then you stalk everybody for griefers and banhammer them out of existence.
 Infiniminer is basically a crashed server waiting to happen, where the world is slowly eaten away by hacked TNT that appears everywhere to drop the ground level to the point where falling kills you when you spawn. The griefing that goes on there is beyond anything ever, as hacks make EVERYTHING into a griefing tool.

 It was fun times, at least 'till people noticed that damn near everything happens client side and they could force the entire map to erase itself.

I prefer Epicenter, the unreleased modification of Infiniminer that turns it into a true sandbox.
