Is it just me, or are our spells being fiddled so they fail?

> Try again

You try to cast the spell again. (Magic: Glyphs) (Glyph of Projectiles + Glyph of Balls) (63-20=43) (43>10) (Success! 92xp gained!)

A ball of energy erupts from your hands and flies off toward the lever. The ball manages to flip it, but what it happens the chains tighten with a jerk and a rusty spike comes out of the wall to impale one of the man's legs. He yells in pain as this happens, and the lever has moved back to its original position.

> Look around. Is there a stone or some foreign object that we can pelt the guy hit the lever with?

You see a brick hidden in a corner, behind you.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

>Walk back to brick, pick it up, look underneath, examine brick + corner.

You walk back to the brick and pick it up. Besides that, there seems to be nothing in the corner. You look underneath the brick, and you see a key firmly slotted into an indentation. You remove the key and place into your backpack. Perhaps it will come in handy later on.

> Did the brick even come from the wall?

No, it didn't. That's strange.

Look at the guy suspended on the other side of the room... did the chains let up as you walked back to the wall?
