"Having faith" that the bridge will not fall, implies that the bridge itself isn't that trustworthy. It's not that different from "I pray that the bridge will hold my weight."

You do not see why you'd need to talk to corpses.

They are already dead, but you stab them a few times with your sword just to make sure. You search their bodies, and you find some coins, notes and some jewelery. One of their daggers catch your eye, and you pilfer it.

> Return to your studies in the "forbidden" library.

You return to the room, unhindered now that everyone ran away from the library. You sit down in a nearby chair. You still feel cold, even though there's a lamp right next to you and monastery is warm. Shortly, you hear some footsteps outside, and a voice saying,

"What the... What the hell happened here? Ed, Pete, go through that door and see what you find. Keep 'em from flanking us. The rest of us'll push forward."

You hear footsteps approach the door, as the rest leave. The doorknob begins turning.

What do you do?

I'm going to play out a couple scenarios as I might not get to check this this weekend depending on how things work out...

> Stand solemnly with eyes facing down and hands clasped just below your chest awaiting the entry of the soldiers.
> Upon entry, tell them calmly that you have protected the building from the fire they started at great cost.

From their reaction:

1.  (Reaction: Calm, relieved / Sheathing weapons if drawn)
> Ask them to station someone at the doors [of the forbidden library] until you have a chance to review the situation.  "Do not let anyone in."
> Ask them if there is any more immediate need for help in the area.

2.  (Reaction: Drawing weapon and advancing)
> Tell them in an assertive, yet calmed, tone to cease advance and drop weapons.  Failing that, Glyph of Projectiles on them.

edits:  wasn't sure of guards/brigands coming in... I'm assuming they do not know you, you are dressed in armor that may or may not agree with them.  I think playing on their side right now might be best.

Try using the Glyph of expansion on the other's head.
