That or I'm thinking casting ball + expansion and creating a ball around us or below us... or we could try complex ball + expansion + heat and use it to float away or fry ourselves to a crisp.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

> Cast glyphs

Before you can do anything, however, your feet kiss the ground. A sharp jolt of pain travels up your legs, despite the shied you erected around yourself earlier, and you crumple down onto the ground. You see a bulge on your leg, and is painful to the touch. You try to stad up, but the pain brings you down again. A dirty-looking person is loitering near you. He wears a ragged brown coat, patched pants and mismatching socks and pants, holding a tuque in one hand and a sign in the other (saying, "Need Munny"). He has faded brown hair with a long beard. When he sees you falling out of the sky, he runs away screaming. You have landed in the middle of a street, blocking the cars. A ccar stops near you and athe driver comes out. He says,

"Hey, man, are you okay? Hang in there, I'm gonna call for an ambulance."

He begins reaching for his cellphone.

Ask him what that thing he's holding is and cast life glyph on your legs.

The only other time we saw a small device like that, it appeared to summon demons that attacked us with some kind of magic wands. Do we really want the guy to finish activating it?

The above is just an observation, not an action:

But do we want to scare him? I mean, someone panicked over a single fire bolt. So cast life on leg, but make sure that the guy with the summoning device doesn't  see.

Also, he seemed worried about our health, so I'd think he can summon help too.

But if we fail to heal ourselves or we wont heal enough, accept it. Also, if we succeed to heal ourself he might ask us about that fall. In case that happens tell him, that we are an acrobat, and know how to fall.

> Cast life glyph on leg.

You attempt to cast the life glyph on your leg, concealing it under your trousers. (Magic: Glyphs) (Glyph of Life) (27-30=-3) (-3<0) (Critical Failure!)

However, your spell backfires and your condition worsens. Bone fragments are pushed further out of aliment and your skin is ripped open. You let out a grunt of pain.

At that moment, a yellow-and-green ambulance skids to a halt beside you.  Paramedics rush out and put you on a stretcher, and carry you inside. You feel the ambulance take off. As the other paramedics take out the equipment, another pulls up your sleeve and tries to look at your wounds, saying, "You'll be all right. Just hang on there!"

You see a medic take out a syringe and attach a long, narrow and very sharp looking needle and do a test squirt. The doctor comes to you witht he needle, and prepares to inject whatever it contains into you.

Attempt to heal again.
Speaking from experience... if you are in a stretcher in the back of an ambulance, all you are really going to be able to do is talk.  Sitting up to position the rune on/near your leg would be a queue for the paramedic to push you back down... granted, we wouldn't know this having just fallen out of the medieval, but we may not be able to conceal it this time and we wouldn't want the paramedics getting ideas about stealing our life rune.

I say we let this play out.  Any sudden actions now could only dig us deeper into whatever trouble we are already in.

Yeah, you got a point. I just don't want to wake up a week later, in jail.

Oh, no wait, nevermind. Glyphs are not physical objects.
