You wonder how you could possibly lick yourself in the back.

Your iron shortsword has evolved into.... an iron longsword!

Oh. You noticed that. I meant it to be a langsword before, as you have training in it, but I gave you guys a shortsword instead. I have now retconned it. :)

Will update soon.,

> Advance, hand on sword.

You advance, keeping your hand on the pommel in case the elf tries anything (+5 on reaction time). The elf laughs a bit and says,

"Ah. Another brave - or foolish - adventurer stumbling around the labyrinths of the tower. You are here for the riches, and if not that then it is for fame, no doubt."

The elf looks at you and smiles slightly again before continuing,

"I shall tell you one thing: Many have come before you, far greater in number and stronger of mind and of body. Most of them failed. Of the few that succeeded, they became lost in this expanse. And what do you have that would set you apart from the rest?"

Attempt to coax more information out of elf, disguising your not being around through sneakiness and general roguish behavior

> Attempt to coax more information out of elf

You attempt to cox more information out of this stranger- (Speech) (100-20=80) (80>50) (Success! 78xp gained!)

-and he says,

"Well, there isn't too much to know about this place. Nobody knows how it got here. This is... Well, you could call this the space in between planes. The labyrinth is made up mostly of a set of passages with doors or ramps or hatches leading to wherever, and temporary rifts in doorways in those places opening to the next place. Quite nifty. Amazing that you didn't meet anything mind-bending yet, like carnivorous squares or sentient tessaracts."

"As for me, well, I don't know how I got here either. I suppose I was like you, once - brave and inquisitive, and most of all greedy. But now I've forgotten my past and made my home here, which is the closest thing I can get to a woodland. And as you've probably noticed, yes, I possess magical powers."

The elf sighs wistfully, and sits down looking at the eternal starry night sky above- (Psychology) (92-30-5=57) (57>50) (Success! 94xp gained!)

-and you can tell he is longing for something, probably homesick. He doesn't seem to have very much left in his life, and seems rather demotivated despite his previous confidence.

He looks at you, and says,

"Since you clearly do not have much, I can teach you magic if you wish, so that you'll have at least a marginal chance of survival. If you are hungry or need to restock your larder, please take what you wish from the blooming trees near me."

Just get magic from him, preferrably one that can help him get food (magic missile-esque thing, TK or even healing. it's your choice)

Just out of curiosity, what DOES Dwarf Fortress smell like?
Death, Booze, and Insanity.
Ladders are absolutely essential for one reason and one reason only:

Welcome, friends to Slaves to Armok III: Snakes and Ladders.
