You launch yet another spell at the creatures. (Magic: Glyphs) (Glyph of Balls + Glyph of Fire + Glyph of Expansion + Glyph of Projectiles) (47-20=27) (27>25) (Success! 53xp gained!)

A fireball flies from your fingers, launching you back down with recoil and slightly charring your other gauntlet. The spell explodes in front of your  enemies and send them all off the bridge.

You're exhausted from spellcasting, your back hurts, your stomach is grumbling and you're lying in a puddle of something wet and smelly. This is not a good day.

Examine how far along the bridge we are.
Examine book for writing that may describe what it is.

Yes. The alarms are getting a bit annoying, actually.

The black leather cover has nothing on it whatsoever. It seems old, and is scuffed and bent in many places. There are even a few burn marks here and there. It seems familiar, somehow...

Continue walking toward town, keeping an eye out for more people.

If we reach town, look for a dark hiding place to wait out the alarm and rest.

This. Also, if we reach the town, let's have a look at what the typical construction material is; mud wall, fired brick, living rock, skin of  turkey gallbladder... you get the idea.

You walk toward the buildings before you. As you get closer another battalion of insectoids swarm down to the bridge to attack you. You also see several guards posted in front of the gate and several archers on the walls. They are of the same species.

What do you do?

They're quite smart enough to stab the general area you were last at, so you'd still probably get damage.

So we got monsters above, monsters below, dwarves in the middle and a party in the dining hall. Sounds good to me.
