TRIBAL LIFE! - YEAR 2 - Turn Posted
« on: February 19, 2010, 12:20:04 pm »

TRIBAL LIFE
The Growth of Humanity

Inspired by this thread, in turn inspired by this thread and I'm combining small parts of the Civilization games as well as my own extra ideas. It seems this is like the fourth one out there now. Each is different though, there's no real rule set so it's all for one.

This is my first forum game and it is a bit of a mix of many things so I hope it works out.

6 Players Max. If we don't hit it, latecomers are welcome until we hit the max. Should you be wiped out then that creates a free spot.

SETUP

You are the Leader of a group of people. You must designate the tribes name, location and Skills. Describe an ideal surroundings for your people to live in and I may put you there with some tweaking.

Your tribe consists of 50 men, 50 women, 25 children and 25 elders. Describe their rituals/beliefs/traditions etc. and any other information that may help out.

TRADING

Anything can be traded, as long as you have it. You can post maximums of what you wish to be traded in terms of resources, labour, animals, territory and research as well as what you will accept. Should two tribes encouter one another and wish to trade then negotiations will not exceed what you are willing to trade.

SKILLS

All tribes know how to gather food, or else you would not have grown to 150 members. Choose a food source
Quote
-Hunting Wild Animals
-Fishing Rivers/Ponds/Oceans
-Growing Crops
-Forraging for wild fruits, seeds, mushrooms etc.

All tribes have skills, or your members would have died off fairly quickly. Choose three specialist skills
Quote
-Small Item Creation (amulets, bracelets, crowns)
-Simple Weapon Creation (Stone Dagger, bow and arrows, club)
-Hut/House building
-Light Defense (Wooden walls)
-The Secret of Fire
-The Wheel
-Clothing
-Clay Working
-Extra Food Gathering (choose a secondary food source from the food list)

All tribes have something unique. Choose one of the following Skills. These are a first come first served and once picked are unique to that group unless shared

TURNS

Turns are both yearly and seasonal, post what you wish for the tribe to do over the year and at each individual season. When a turn is posted it will be split seasonally, however the entire turn is one year.

Wow! Everyone is making a tribal game now. Well I'll join this one, since it might give me ideas for my own.

Redlios Tribe

Food Source:
Growing Crops

Skills:
Simple Weapon Creation
Hut/House Building
Extra Food Gathering(Hunting)

Unique Attribute:
Ropemaking

Location:
The tribe lives next to a lake in the middle of a valley. Lightly wooded hills surround the area.

Rituals/Religion:
Tribe members follow a trinity of the Earth Mother, Old Man and the Vagabond.
The Spring Festival is held when the first flower blooms each year to honor the Earth Mother, the major deity.
When the leaves turn, the Vagabond cares for the tribe until winter.
Respect is paid to the dead on the first snow. Winter is a time for reflection, following the lead of the Old Man who sleeps under the frozen lake.

I'd join:

Name: Luzia

Food Source:-Hunting

Skills:
Hut/house building
Clay working
Simple Weapon Creation

Unique:Food preservation

Location:On Plains, near slow moving rivers with clay riverbeds.

Village life:Having scare wood, they build clay houses and workshops, and have perfected it to an art form, letting them build clay houses with enough room to actually stand up inside, they build their homes in a large circular pattern, with doors facing inwards, and at the center of the village the clay pit where they get all the material for their objects and houses.  Their houses are mostly connected, with each tribe member building his own hut as a rite of passage, letting the best clay workers (thus the most important members of the village) gain the best houses.  Hunters are also revered, yet they almost run a separate village with the food preservers who follow them around to preserve the meat from the hunts.

Beliefs: The Luzia believe they were made from the clays of the earth by Zeke, and sent upon the earth to guide the wild tribes of animals, and work in the art of clay working until they too can mold life from the clay.  The molding of clay, and preservation of meats both take on a ritual belief for the Luzia, though they are loose beliefs. The only time when religion is strong with them is when they mold a man sized sculptur from clay, filling it with the bones of the animals they hunt, in a priestly recreation of Zeke's making of them, on Mid Summer's day, called by them, the Creation.

Start posting your turns now if you want to, I'll get to work on them and post them up as soon as I have them in.
I'm presuming it'll take a while to post all your turns and by then hopefully a sixth person will have signed up.

Quick Edit: I'm using a small RNG thing i've put together. It gives events for the year divided into seasons. Just now it rolled up the following
Spring - Barbarian Attack
Summer - Fire
           -Barbarian Attack
Autumn - Barbarian Attack

Thank god it wasn't an official run.

Name: Yittrasei

Food Source: Fishing

Skills: Small Item Creation
The Secret of Fire
Clothing

Unique Skill: Writing

Location: The Yittrasei live in the cliffs along an enormous lake. The climate is cold. The lake, however, does not freeze over completely in winter due to a nearby magma channel (does not reach the surface, and has not erupted), allowing for year round fishing.

Writing up the other two parts now..

Spring: Plant crops, especially grain. Hunt for game.
Summer: Make rope and continue hunting. Send gatherers to harvest plants. Build houses and pens.
Fall: Send hunters out with rope to try and capture animals. Harvest grain crops. Store food for winter.
Winter: Domesticate animals with some grain. If food supplies run low, slaughter several males for food.

Yittrasei:

The Yittrasei regard the written word as holy, even magical. As such, there are several leadership positions based entirely around words. Each position has its own writing system, making it nearly impossible for the untrained to understand anything but the common system. The Interpreter predicts the future by reading the fire-cracks in heated fish-bone and conducts prayers. The Nominist creates a new symbol for every new name, conducts the funeral rites and keeps track of all four writing systems. The Archivist chronicles the daily happenings in the village and writes the funeral histories. The Storemaster records the village inventory using the common system. The Chief settles disputes and writes proclamations using the common system, which directs the day to day activities of the villagers.

The Yittrasei believe that the True Lake (the literal translation of Yit Tras) is the passageway between the worlds of the living and the dead. They believe that when a person dies, the god of the dead, a giant pike, will lead the soul of the deceased to the next world, but only if he is in a good mood that day. If he is in a bad mood, the soul is devoured.

When a member of the People (Ei) dies, the Archivist first writes up a lengthy description of that individual's life and deeds. Next, the body and the newly written history are burned and scattered on the Lake by the Interpreter, who then reads the oracle bones to see if a further offering is required for the spirit of the deceased to gain entrance into the next world instead of being eaten.

Dieties:
God of the Dead/The Lake : A pike, Dvaisse
Goddess of the Written Word: Ild
God of Fire: Seivru
God of Land: Torl
Goddess of the Sky: Elta
God of Crafts: Wraiv

Yearly Festivals: Currently, only one. In the summer, an offering is thrown into the lake to persuade Dvaisse to stop eating all the fish.

Spring: Make crafts from the non-oracled bones.
Summer: Crafts. Gather flowers. Make an offering of crafts and flowers to Dvaisse.
Autumn: Explore surroundings, gather materials for clothing (Thread from vines/long grasses can work)
Winter: Make clothing.
