Dwarf Bullet Time
« on: February 19, 2010, 11:17:09 am »

Just noticed something awesome. I modded the dwarves to have [SPEED:1], so I could complete an experiment quickly. The experiment was to leave 300 barrels of beer in an underground chamber so I could come back and line up the barrels in such a way that they would wipe out most of an elven forest retreat simultaneously. ;D

So I started a new game, then got ambushed by some wolves. I ran toward them, then noticed that I forgot to take off the SPEED token. I ran a few circles around them, then moved into the center of the pack. Now is when they decided to move, and they knocked me down, causing me to enter a martial trance. Then, I smacked one with my hammer. It said it was propelled into the air, but all it did was turn blue, staying where it was. I was a bit confused, so I hit the other 4 wolves surrounding me. They all turned blue, too. So, then I decided I would try to hit the first one, floating in midair before me. As soon as I moved toward it, all the wolves decided to continue flying violently backward into trees. :o

I have absolutely no clue why this would happen. Anybody else know?

Will you take the blue pill or the red pill?

That last gobbo would stand there, missing an arm, punctured in a kidney, liver, and spleen, fading in and out of consciousness at the far end of where the drawbridge would go, and his last sight would be the drawbridge dropping down and smashing him like a bug.

God DAMN I love this game!

The Matrix: NOW WITH DORF-POWER!
is what I was thinking, heh.

But yeah, just got to the elven village. Laid down 20 barrels of booze down around an elven swordsman, then lit about 50 trees and plants on fire around him. He managed to make it one step before the forest exploded in a fit of boiling booze.

Speed:1 is a quirky thing. One one hand, so long as you stay in one spot, and just make attacks on things standing around you, time will be stopped. On the other hand, even though you've sort of stopped time, creatures can still make counterattacks against you.

I think you might be able to sidestep crossbow bolts and dragonbreath attacks, but I haven't tested that yet.

I did some more testing and discovered that time also "stops" when you jump off a ledge, and you are given the FLYING thing at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, you can't actually move again midair, you simply fall if you try. I'll test soon to see if I can attack enemies midair and not fall.

Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill? And I must do this now!

And to clarify for those scratching their head: The dwarf is moving so fast that time is stopped from his perspective.

Well, that worked. Lured a cougar to a ledge, then jumped off the ledge. I hit the cougar twice before we "tangled together and fell over" back onto safe land. Did it again, and propelled the cougar away. Tried to move back, but just fell a z-level.

EDIT: Pack of wolves this time. I leaped off the ledge above a pond, then remembered :-X I couldn't swim. I attacked the one wolf adjacent to me, only to propel him away. Luckily I had a rock, so I threw that past it, causing time to move forward again. Three things happened: I fell into the water, the rock smacked the wolf in the leg for massive damage, then the wolf smacked into the wolf. Anybody know if creatures smacking into other creatures do damage?

It doesn't, it only stuns them.

I think SPEED:0 resets the speed to something else, because although I'm fast, I'm not lightspeed-fast. I might've read on the wiki that it sets the speed to 100, but I'm not entirely sure.

It adds one to your speed, because there's division involved. And no, it doesn't take negative integers.

So when you enter 0, it actually processes for 1. I don't remember the rest of the equation though.

Edit: Oh, but you would double your speed for speed 0 compared to 1, though.

*Puts on sunglasses*
*Rolls a badass check*

The universe simultaneously explodes and implodes, causing the entire universe to be vaporised in a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a nanosecond. If you paid attention to the step right before the universe imploding, you would see a lone sunglasses-wearing swordsman execute a masterful 50-hit combo in a single second.

In the vast emptiness that follows, the last thing everyone hears is a yell of "FLAWLESS VICTORY!"
