I agree with Org. If our berry pickings are good now, then we should build up enough for when the harvests are worse.

Org: I believe it was stated earlier that forests are better for hunting.
Isn't north a forest?

Looks like a heavy forest too, so probably better hunting

It seems that discussion has stopped, but no decision has been reached. Anyone care to clarify what is going on so I can post a turn?

Hmm...
wait

Elders and Children carve many idols of the gods.
The Hunters move one up, and then hunt.
8 gatherers gather both turns.
2 gatherers make a underground food storage place.

Better?

Guys, we really, really, really don't need the hunters to be hunting right now. The gatherers are far more useful than the hunters. What can the hunters get us? A paltry 1 meat per man per turn, counting the time it takes to go north and back? The gatherers can get us more twice as much. Hunters should not be hunting, they should be building or doing other things. And gatherers should definitely be gathering.
Also, RNG's already said this twice: Elders can't do anything except walk around (since they're debating), and I'm pretty sure children aren't going to be able to carve idols by themselves.

I propose this alternate scheme:

Elders and Children pray to Sudile for a good harvest.
All gatherers with weapons drop them.
All gatherers gather both turns.
5 Hunters carve axes.
2 Hunters equip axes in place of bows and dig an underground food storage.
3 Hunters equip knives in place of bows and butcher the rabbits.

Alright, let's go with Cheddarius' plans.

After looking more carefully, I'm not sure why I thought the area to the north was hills.

If berries grow scarce, we will have our gatherers gather stone and wood.

Turn 3:
All the hunters look for animals. They catch some small rabbits, but most of the larger game seems to have been scared off.

Why don't you send Org and myself up north away from the camp where we might catch something useful. Meat has to be more efficient that handfulls of berries.

Further more from what I can tell all the hunting has been in the light woodland rather than the heavier stuff up north, don't make rash judgements without better info.

Edit: hell move us up two squares, so off the map this turn and do a hunter's camp style system to get meat for bringing back later.

Meat doesn't have to be more efficient than berries. Just look at the numbers, berries give us 2.5 per man with prayer, and hunting gives us 1.5 with prayer. Meat doesn't have to be better than berries just because you really want it to be, or just because it's like that in real life.

However! You have a good point with the woodlands. We'll experiment with that. How's this?

Elders and Children pray to Sudile for a good harvest.
All gatherers with weapons drop them.
All gatherers gather both turns.
Org and Shades go north twice.
5 Hunters carve axes.
3 Hunters equip knives in place of bows and butcher the rabbits.

Also, I think I'm going to modify the carrying capacity somewhat... make it 2(1 for each hand), but have certain items "wearable" that don't take up as much space(like meat). After all, it is easier to carry 5 slabs of meat than it is to carry 5 handfuls of berries.
