That one's easy, though.  Heath Ledger was a better actor than Arnold could ever be.  Arnie has all sorts of hilariously awful one-liners, but he's still a mediocre actor.

I did suggest contemporaries of Jack Black and Will Smith. The two actors should at least be contemporary to each other. It's hard to meaningfully compare great actors from different eras, even if it's just a matter of a couple of decades.

 Samuel L. Jackson vs. Tommy Lee Jones.

 Tommy would win in a contest of who is a better actor, but when it comes to who is more badass the line becomes very blurred. Popular vote will place Samuel barely above Tommy. I get the feeling that Samuel has been in more recent popular movies and has been known for creating more memes, but Tommy is the everyday badass. They play their parts well, Samuel doing the badass black guy and Tommy being the badass cop.

 This is a fight we could get behind.

It's not about whether their acting periods overlap. The point I was making is that they began acting decades apart, and are not of a similar age. By my thinking, we'd also need to compare movies only up until the point of Ledger's early death.

Not to mention I can't think of a good Morgan Freeman movie post Ledger.
