Mind, for some spam, replying will just confirm that they have contacted an active account. The spam will not stop.
Use a second account, they send out so many e-mails they wont realise they never sent you one.

http://www.419eater.com/

Can you post some examples of the touch and go you had with the scammers?  I'd like to see how and what did they answer.
I use my yahoo junk email for that- I doubt the emails are still there (even tho I never delete out of it, so maybe ill look after posting)

Last one I communicated with was one of the Nigeria scams; I responded enthusiastically that I really wanted to get rich and had been searching to do so for the last few years and that this opportunity was just what i was looking for. THe person responded with similar enthusiasm, encouraging me to participate. I sent one more response, asking questions about what life in Africa was like and how lawyering there was... If I recall correctly he never responded after that one.

EDIT:
For some reason my yahoo account doesn't have any emails in the 'sent' folder from before 08, and I am not in the mood to sort through thousands of emails in the inbox to find it (unless someone knows how to sort by read/unread).

I got that too. Was rather confused by it.  I figured it might be referring to the trial account I created a couple years ago, but didn't care.

Lol, the sad thing is there are probably people who fall for that kind of thing.

I got some funny spam ads with really bad english but they got auto-deleted for sitting in the junk mail folder for too long.  They had such a quirky charm to them too.  :(

Here's something I just found in my junk folder.  I have a bunch of them.

Greetings
An investigation of your World of Warcraft account has found strong evidence
that the account in question is being  sold or traded. As you may not be aware
of, this conflicts with Blizzard's EULA under section 4 Paragraph B which  can
be found here:
WoW -> Legal -> End User License Agreement
and Section 8 of the Terms of Use found here:
WoW -> Legal -> Terms of Use
The investigation will be continued by Blizzard administration to determine the
action to be taken against your  account. If your account is found violating the
EULA and Terms of Use, your account can, and will be  suspended/closed/or
terminated.
In order to keep this from occurring, you should immediately verify that you are
the original owner of the account.
To verify your identity please visit the following webpage:

Only Account Administration will be able to assist with account retrieval
issues. Thank you for your time and  attention to this matter, and your
continued interest in World of Warcraft.
Sincerely,

Account Administration

The URL was a link, but nothing else was.  I'm not sure what exactly they were trying to do with those WoW-> whatever things...

Honestly there are alot of mental states where you could get easily phished. I.E you got wasted this paticular night and went for the hook
Ah, fond memories of WoW. Too bad you had to give your guildies their money back when you gave them a sermon the nest morning.

The Argentina style phishing happens in Holland too. Some young cousin gave one of those social networking sites her hotmail account info and now all she wants to talk about is Acai Berry Pills that made her lose weight.

When I was a teenager I got one of those e-mails that said: "Someone has a crush on you, fill out your friend's email adresses and we'll tell you if she's among them." So I happily added everyone I knew to the spam list.

edit: Look at that post on Boingboing, what a coincidence. http://5z8.info/russian-brides_o8t5r_aryanbr0ther00d is now the official url to log into the steam community.

Huh.  If that actually is a phishing link, I'm shocked and alarmed...because it appears to redirect directly to https://steamcommunity.com/, and on Firefox it even includes a 'Verified by Verisign' thing in my address bar.  Browsers had better not be able to be phished from that under any circumstances.  Right now I kind of suspect that it IS a true redirect, but, well...ya know, I don't think I'm going to take the chance and log in with it.

5z8.info is the domain of shadyurl XD It is like tinyurl, but makes the resulting shortlink sound like malware or phishing sites.

First I got a message from steam support about sending proof of purchase, so I sent a picture of the orange box code I have with the support ticket number penned in, then they messaged me again.
Apparently they either covered their eyes with their own ear wax and tried to read the code or they are frikin' ignoring me entirely and leaving it to machines, because they told me the same damn thing. If they were actually running a proper service here they could at least tell me why they won't accept it.

Or perhaps you are the Steam hijackers, having also taken over the Bay12 account and consolidating the identity theft position...
