You have struck.... something. This, by the way, is only a stone's throw away from MAGMA and quite possibly an army of fire imps ready to tear shit up once they find the exit.

I failed to see the connection to hfs in the article...
It seems more like 'Real life Gypsum deposit' would have been a better title.

I guess he means in terms of the new underground levels wherein you break into something like a cave loaded with valuable crystal?

I scrolled down to the creationist arguments in the comments for that story. So, so sad.

"..impaled on a sharp crystal..."
Menacing Spikes

"There is a steel door protecting the cave..."
Airlocked mining compartments

"Crystal Cave of Giants"
Random name generation

"...magma..."
Uh oh sounds like !!Fun!!

Comments at the bottom of articles are hilarious every single time.  It could be a news article about a lolcat doing lolstuff and the comment people will still be telling everyone how X is a lie because Y is out to get you and its so obvious and everyone is sheep because they don't think like I do.

I saw a documentary on these things. It's so hot people can't venture in without an internally cooled oxygen supply.

Even then they're only allowed inside the cave for a half hour or so.  It's really sort of depressing we can't explore it much more.

A section of cavern has collapsed!
"Urist?"
"Yes Kol?"
What in Armok's name have we done?"

...the door to hell is neat, but whatever twit thought it was a good idea to light that natural gas on fire instead of find some way to pull it out of the ground needs to be slapped.

(There is a story behind this. . .)

This is an Alder Omelette. All craftsdwarfship is of highest quality. It is encircled with bands of cheese. It menaces with spikes of bacon, ham, and peppers. On the object is an image of dwarves in egg white. The dwarves are eating.

I was gonna say, THIRTY FIVE YEARS of a hole that size burning... yea, that's got to be doing something. Why hasn't this been publicized?

Probably has. It's been going on for 35 years; ergo it's old news. Not only that, but natural gas has long been known to be caught on the wind and suffocate entire communities once it's released. It's odorless you know, required to be odorized before distribution so we don't off ourselves. They had good reason for setting it ablaze; it's long been common practice and they were no doubt ignorant of the volume present.

It's so close to the surface that you couldn't really harvest it effectively, or likely even contain it. If you put out the fire you'd be in the same situation as you were previously: freeflowing poisonous gas in large quantities.
