So there's this MUD called Alter Aeon. It's sort of a normal one. You make your character from 4 classes, start out in this place, and move on, reading the tutorial signs as you go. Then you get dropped in this camp. Kobolds drove them from the town of Pellam, and they've erected a camp here temporarily. You get your first quest, to kill this carver shaman.
It's pretty cool, because you get all kinds of sweet loot, you can multiclass and such. You level a lot, so you're always unlocking new spells and skills, and grouping is pretty fun. Plus, everything is quite imaginative - for example, one of the dungeons has two different secret areas. And the world is absolutely gigantic, and filled with cool quests to do.
One of the nice things about it is that there's other things, too. You can fish, you can learn how to forage for food, you can even get a tinder box and start campfires. There's all kinds of neat little things to do like that.
But the thing that makes it really awesome is the community. I was asking about cooking (which isn't yet implemented) on the newbie channel, and the admin himself personally asked me about that. He asked if I wanted things like crafting; I said yes; and he actually said that he'd try to work on that in the next few days. Holy smokes, guys! I was flabbergasted. I mean, seriously, a guy asks about crafting and the admin personally sees to it that it's implemented! Wow.
(You probably shouldn't, you know, bother him with requests though)
Anyway, you don't need a MUD client or anything to access it - just go to
the web site, go to Downloads on the left, download the client executable, and run it. You can access it with a MUD client too, of course. Just [tell Cheddarius Hi] if you need any help or anything.
