As the title says, how did you find Dwarf Fortress?
A friend?
Another Forum?
Google search?

I found mine on another forum, The Blockland forum. There was a topic about it in the games section and after a week of seeing it on the front page I finally clicked the topic and read about the game and downloaded it.I originally dumped the game due to save corruptions and ASCII. But one of the posts gave a link to Mike Mayday's version.That is the story of how I found one of my favorite games!

Yep, same.  Just the ASCII (in a modern game) had me interested, I love it as a radical style of game art, and hope Tarn never gets round to 3d graphics or the like...  To be fair, it was also the bit with the dog giving birth while on fire and still attacking that also interested me. :p

I found it on softpedia website.

Installed it, ran the world gen. It took awhile, I thought it crashed.

I tried again a week later and left world gen running as I went to the grocery store.

Then it sat for six months. Sure, when I got the groceries put away I played DF mode and went with play right away option and I had no idea of what the fuck I was doing.

Over those six months I would try then stop. Then I found the wiki.

I listened to a friend describe it over team chat while we were playing Killing Floor. I'd heard people talk about how deep the game was, and had checked out the site once before, but the ASCII instantly turned me off. Only after my friend talked about what you could do in detail that I was like "ok, ASCII or not, I have to try this." And then I found the Mayday pack, and everything was golden.

I found it by complete accident, as I was looking for games like Nethack and ASCII Portal.

Once the butchering of cats, and throwing people with the DAS was found... Well. Lets just say I have never had more fun flinging rocks around.

Hi!  This is my first post here...

I'm a poster on teamliquid.net, a site about Korean starcraft progaming.  Someone created a dwarf fortress thread there a while back, which is how I learned of the game.  I created an account here in order, hopefully, to contribute once the release happens.
