tvtropes entry for Apocalyptic Log -> tvtropes entry for Boatmurdered -> lparchive entry for Boatmurdered. Much reading, no sleep. Tried to install and run the game, no luck, not on a ten year old computer assembled from free scrap parts that were ancient even back then. Filed it away in the back of my mind under Things That Might Be Nice If They Were Possible. Occasionally read other LPs and such related to DF, but could do nothing about it.
Got an itch to try again much later, had permission to use my sister's laptop for gaming when she wasn't using it. Remembered DF, installed and tried it. I didn't understand anything, except that this was going to take a LOT of time to figure out. Didn't think I'd have that kind of time available on a borrowed computer, uninstalled.
Even later on, sister's laptop was dying... screen dissolved into a mass of static any time it was jarred, sister flapped the fold around trying to fix it, had some success but made the problem progressively worse, till even a loud noise could screw it up. A few weeks ago as of now, she got a new desktop PC and permitted me to have the broken laptop. As I suspected the screen cable had fatigued and broken, and I replaced it, wiped the HDD, installed Ubuntu and moved in. Coincidentally re-read the LP of Headshoots a little later and thought, "Hey, I have a machine that can run that now, available to me whenever I want for as long as I want." Installed the game, failed a lot, learned some. Read the wiki, failed a lot more, learned some more. Joined #df on irc.synirc.net, still failing, still learning. Now I'm here too.
Since I got started I haven't played any other games, except on the infrequent occasions company comes over and requires a sound thrashing at a console fighting or tabletop board game. I've got a crapload of recorded House epis I need to watch and erase, but I can never seem to find the time to watch TV anymore...
