And there's that wall of text we were talking about.

Hehehehe. This thread basically reads like "This is an engraving of a wall. On the wall is an engraving of a wall. On the wall is an engraving of etc. etc. etc."

My vote's for a wall of babies, to keep out arrows (a fact unfortunately ensconced in truth).

I've just realized, what if elves aren't actually hippies and one with nature.  Obviously they use wooden weapons and bins and even sell wood in their caravans, they also seem to have a thriving poaching business.  In fact they seem to only be offended by the amount of wood and wood objects you have, not the actual foresting.  Could it be the elves are actually trying to create a monopoly on wood?

A wall of biotics (or a biotic wall) to keep out Reapers.

I've been playing too much Mass Eff-ASSUMING CONTROL.

A wall of paper, to keep out rock.
A wall of rock, to keep out scissors.
A wall of scissors, to keep out paper.

I have deconstructed every joke in this thread into it's most primitive form. Except the infinite recursion wall.

A wall of sand.
A wall of water.
A wall of silver.
A wall of clownite.
A wall of lava.
A wall of quantum matter to keep out anything the other walls couldn't.

A wall of Mobius rings so no one would even come close to your fortress.

A wall of railguns.

Seriously.

That's the great thing about this forum. We can derail any discussion into any other topic.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Things you left out...
Bauxite. To protect from magma.
Also, you need a wall of pure fire. This protects your fort from viruses.

The steel is magma proof. No need to reinvent the wheel.

A wall of wooden spikes hooked to a repeater, simulating a palisade wall.
A wall of magma, to protect against dwarves deconstructing the other walls.
A wall of goblins behind windows, to protect against anything scareable.
A wall of pissed off champions, to protect against... everything.

A roof.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

A layered wall is flawed honestly... sure you have a wall that is immune to A, but not to B, so you use B and discover another wall that is immune to B but not C. You use C and discover a wall immune to C but not D.. etc, etc.

But eventually they break through and realize that the only thing on the other side is another wall, leading through the other side of the fortress, which would be outside again. Thus making the whole thing a wall of futility.
