indestructible wall
« on: February 14, 2010, 10:22:00 pm »

so i just finished building a wall 5 layers thick made of obsidian steel chrome (dig deeper) silver and lead i figure the obsidian is hard enough to stop mideval weapons (swords axes bows) the steel can stop more advanced weapons (kinetic energy weapons aka guns) the chrome due to its reflectiveness can stop laser weaponry the silver wall due to the fact that silver is the most conductive metal known at room temp (even more than gold) can stop charged particle weapons (particle beams) and finaly the lead wall stops radiological weapons (nukes) so can anybody think of anything i left out.

just the fact that walls made of soap don't melt in the rain. walls are already indestructible. so it was an utterly pointless, but still interesting build.

Oh come on.  What do we do in this game that isn't pointless?  But yeah, all constructions are completely and totally indestructible.

for armoks sake man think of what will happen when the orcs develop actual weapons then all you with your soap walls will be dead while i laugh behind 100' walls of every element known to dwarf kind
p.s i layered walls on top as a roof it was a pain but i built a 5 layer thick roof too same materials as the wall if its worth doing its worth overdoing and i know there indestructible but its dwarf fortress you have to think of everything

Except to the almighty power of the cave-in.

Things you left out...
Bauxite. To protect from magma.
Also, you need a wall of pure fire. This protects your fort from viruses.

You forgot the floor. If my ravenous flesh-eating cave monsters dwarves ever get the chance to escape from my blood-soaked cathedral of death fortress they'll tunnel beneath your walls, enslave your men, and sacrifice your women and children to Armok show you why walls alone aren't good enough in a 3D environment.

People make what would basically constitute nuclear missiles despite pitchblende lacking in it's real life radioactive and uranium refining properties.

A wall of water to keep out fire.
A wall of fat to keep out women.
A wall of fear to keep out cowardly intruders.
A wall of text to ward off readers with low attention spans.

A wall of Spartans to keep out Persia.
A wall of Hadrians to keep out Picts.

But seriously, though, a wall of lignite block-filled iron bins submerged in magma to keep out viruses.

Oh Armok, now someone has to do this.

A Wall of Walls to keep out intruders without siege equipment.
A Series of 7 walls of increasingly valuable metals ending with Orichalcum to make the Atlanteans feel ripped off.
A wall of butchers to deal with the wall of cats once you don't need it any longer.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.
