Floating up ramp
« on: February 14, 2010, 10:07:24 pm »

Is there any way to get rid of this nuisance?  A left over upward ramp attached to nothing suspended in mid air.   I've tried a few things but nothing seems to work.

Have you tried building a stairway up next to it and deconstructing it (if constructed) or mining it away (if not)? If those don't work, you're probably stuck with it.

You don't have cave-ins turned off by any chance? Turning that on would fix it, but have some unfortunate side-effects.

You can always download Gibbed's Dwarf Fortress Tweak, located here:
http://dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/User:Rick/Tweak

And then get the For each Tile module, which is here: http://dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Utility:For_Each_Tile

In the for each tile module there is a button where you can remove the buggy ramps.

If it was a natural ramp, build a stair up to right next to it, build a wall on the ramp, deconstruct the wall, then the stairs.

(There is a story behind this. . .)

This is an Alder Omelette. All craftsdwarfship is of highest quality. It is encircled with bands of cheese. It menaces with spikes of bacon, ham, and peppers. On the object is an image of dwarves in egg white. The dwarves are eating.

Might also be possible to build a wall under it, then designate remove upward ramps.

I once had a floating downward ramp, with no corresponding up ramp beneath it.  Constructing an up ramp under it, then deconstructing, got rid of it.

Forgive the obvious, but have you tried d -> z, smooth upward ramp/stairs?

Related question:

What's the minimum amount of support you can have for a ramp? Can a floor on the z level above support a ramp, or does it need a wall tile adjacent?

Constructed ramps can have just the floor beneath it.  Natural ramps *usually* need a supporting wall, though ramping out large sections always leaves a few stragglers for some reason.
