The RDX I can sorta understand and the formula is simple enough (C3H6N6O6), but (CH2)8(COOC8H17)2 for some thing which i don't know what is and rubber which is -(-CH2-C(CH3)2-)n-.

C-4 is Potassium Chlorate, mixed with wax and a few other items to make it mouldable

I don't know much about explosives, but pure potassium reacts violently with almost anything... including AIR.

Guess he'll have to do it in a vacuum then. Although it should be noted that it's potassium molecules that react violently with anything. If he separates potassium (I hate that word; I have an urge to type "possum" every time I think of it; I prefer "kalium") from something, it'll likely be in atoms, and those wouldn't be quite as reactive, I think. Chemistry ain't my strong point though, so I could be very much wrong there.
