OK.

The party:
Vígúlfr Sveinnson, human, a noble leader - Dwarf
Amlemth Duran, human, a gallant warsmith - Jervous
Fithgnliru, kobold, a touchy scout - Armok
William Flynn, halfling, a daring bard - Org

The party's still under the same tree. Except Nliru who's up in the branches. The party's encountered their first creature in the town. It's the rat, however, I don't think it's very indicative of the condition of the rest of the fauna. But still.

Guys, I'm a retard. Besides it having been a hell of a week. Hence, this weekend's update consists mainly of:

*I've retconned a couple of things.

Also, a new change of direction (and how I'm a retard):
I've decided it makes more sense to first roleplay the story out, then write it down .

So, the party reaches the stone circle without any more alarms. Smaller stones there are twice Vig's height, and although Will feels especially squishy, they appear to be quite stable. In the center of the circle there is a construction the purpose of which is supposedly that of an altar. Upon closer inspection, the altar bears traces of caked blood.
From atop of a tree house, Nliru reports of signs of struggle amidst the furniture.
Finally, the party notices that there is someone behind a farther stone in the circle. The person appears to be sitting on the ground, and only his legs are visible.

Once again, I grab all my weaponry with routine and speed.

Pointing my axe out to the person, I call it out: "Show yourself, Elf! Your magic will not affect us!"

Elf?...
Also, "grab all my weaponry" :) Well, I hope the comical effect is unintentional...
Ah, just for the sake of discussion. I don't see how pulling out the sax helps here. What exactly does Vig expect to confront? I'd think in any sane situation just brandishing the axe would suffice... to at least initiate a conversation. Besides, it should be a bit of a hassle to ready simultaneously the shield and the sax.

In any case, the person, whichever race he/she is, doesn't respond to Vig's cry and doesn't make any movement either.

Elf, mythology. The Anglo-Saxons as an example thought they make you insane etc.

The sax is always good for a surprise!

So, is "Elf" like a curse? Or does Vig feel he's going mad?

He's just superstitious and believes in the Gods and Myths of Norse Paganism™

You know what. I feel even more of a retard for not starting roleplaying earlier, maybe even from the very beginning. This mindset is very hard for my rocket-age brain to process. And here is an excellent source who could work character flavour much better than me. I'd have no idea he could say that if you hadn't told me.

I walk a bit closer, a bit trusting of this person and shouting a friendly 'hello'.

I will try to hold him back, saying that he shouldn't be a fool and get possessed by it!

Hey, I'm gonna roll a dice on this (it's been so long ago I did it last time, I'm so excited!) Amlemth goes first. I don't know what it is, let's say, perseverance. Uh, he rolls 2. Now it's Vig's turn. He is a moderate leader, and I give him +1 to persuasion. Anyway, he's got 7. 2<7!

Amlemth's decisiveness wavers as Vig's cautionary words instill worry in his heart. Amlemth's "Hello" fades into whisper, receiving no reply.

A straight six, huh 8)

Of course, you are assuming Amlemth is also superstitious. Since these are the middle ages, I guess so, but it's up to him.

I rolled a 20-sided dice on the DnD site. :) I originally gave Vig +4 to persuasion, but after the roll it seemed straight unfair, so +1. It's a kind of random thing, I guess now I'll have to research role-playing, too.

I thought more like Amlemth listened to the voice of reason (given the situation), but superstitiousness is an even better explanation.
