I've always held it that kobolds must be a bit cute. Not too cute, but a bit.
Like most (baby) carnivores, they're extremely cute.

Got my stab at kobold fan images
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This pic is a good enough compromise for me between cutebolds and kobolds :).
P.S. It looks eastern though with these wakizashis :P.

Phew... proofreading.
Quote from: OthorII
A couple of feet from him, a hooded figure, thrice as small as the man, sat cross-legged. It was a female kobold, her broad muzzle boldly perked from under the hood, with wet nostrils dilating at a passing scent from time to time. Her whole body was covered by loose dark clothing, except for hands and feet, armed with sharp claws. She had a proud posture and would seem as grave as the human warrior, yet she couldn't help but check her fingers now and then for they would pick and tear a grass stalk into little pieces as soon as her attention dwindled. That was apparently quite irritating for her, as she would sometimes let out a barely audible growl, directed towards her ill-behaving limbs that gave away her weakness, and if one of her companions appeared to have noticed her restlessness, she would challenge him with a fierce stare of her large shiny eyes.

Indeed, sometimes one of the travelers would slip a worried glance in her direction. It was another man. He half-lay on the grass, much more relaxed than his brother by race, and had much softer features. But he wasn't a slacker or a greenhorn, for his sturdy-looking iron armor was well-worn, yet clean and cared for, and his hand rested confidently on the hilt of a longsword of delicate craftsmanship at his belt. His eyes were partially hidden by a careless flow of brown hair as if he knew of his trusting look and tried to hide it, but it didn't help and they easily gave away his concern and compassion for his kobold companion.
Thanks, Armok. I'd work on it some more, but, you know, this is not the DF Art thread, so

Deon, I was going exactly for the eastern ninja-look :). I'm glad my wakizashis turned out quite grotesque to be recognizable.

Dwarf, I'm blown away by the antitheses in your post.

Nitpick: If the man's me - I haven't got a longsword. It's a sax, a very long knife, basically. It can't even be considered a shortsword.
EDIT: Well duh, obviously, he isn't me.

Also, since nobody is applying - I may aswell send you another character, which may be controlled by someone else?

Actually, I was thinking the same. But I have given away the responsibilities for characters so completely to DF forumites, that every character I come up with seems unoriginal and dumb (well, it may be related to my fitting him to the story that's only partially developed in my mind because of characters being controlled by other people).

So, fire away, but I encourage you to not put as much effort into the character as in Vigúlfr.  :)

Edit: The new guy is Jervous' creation, I thought he'd come here and post his authorship, but it seems that I need to clarify it.

While waiting, I've already come up with an interlude. Proofreading?

Quote from: Othor II, a folklore song
Once there was a jolly fellow
Called Gareth Wood
He sang in a voice quite mellow
And danced real good.

So, there was a jolly fellow
He knew his moves
All through the night, march, swing, rock, waltz
And you should see him groooove!

Once there was a jolly fellow
Called Gareth Wood
He sang in a voice quite mellow
And danced real good.

So, he was a jolly fellow
And gentleman
He'd dance with Sally, Mary, Polly, Cherry, Ann and even Jane...
And then he'd dance agaaain!

...

Yes, Gareth was a jolly guy
And he worked in the woods
With a handy axe he cut trees down
And made them into goods

He had a pretty wife and kids
And he was strict but nice
And to put out a drunken brawl he didn't
Have to think twice.

But one day home he comes and finds
A mob of grey-skinned dolts
Their lips are numb and still their eyes
Their shirts are cover'd with mold.

"What want ye?" says our Gareth good
"And how have ye come in?
"Where is my pretty lady Wood
"And little John and Jin?"

The dolts say naught and only moan
Red dripping from their hands
Our Gareth's axe will work on bone
Today he'll feed the land

...

Once there was a jolly fellow
Called Gareth Wood
He'd groan in a voice quite mellow
And shuffle really good.

It has a surprisingly easy-to-pick-up rhythm for being text.

Thanks. You do recognize the protagonist, don't you? :)

Ok. For the final role I got even two submissions, surprisingly. Although, one was another take from Dwarf, who nobly chose to support this thread with one more character, who (as we hoped) could be claimed by someone interested, after I have written her (the character was female) introduction. But some problems arose and while I was trying to figure them out, a late-arrival appeared:
Quote from:  Othor II
The fourth traveler was a young halfling man. His seemed neither relaxed, nor nervous, but rather deep in thought. His eyes were half closed, and fingers of his right hand were strumming invisible strings, while his other hand supported his head, with the elbow on a half-bent knee of his leg. He was obviously a musician, with his instrument - a tear-drop shaped mandola in a leather case, strapped on his back. He wore a linen cloak with a brownish fringe and under it he had a brilliant leather jacket with silvery stripes. On his legs he had dark-red leather trousers and leather boots, coming up to the middle of his ankle. But, for or all the pompousness of his garments, he didn't look like one concerned with ridicule. His thin mouth gave away experience in the more cruel ways of life, even if his whole face was covered in a shadow of sadness of one used to express his finest emotions in poetry.
- A fine young fellow from Org... with whom (the character), I still managed to hit a small bump, namely: well, he's a halfling. There aren't any halflings in Dwarf Fortress, as far as I know...
And... Wait. I realize now, that besides a halfling getting into DF universe, I managed to fit luxurious boots onto his tender furry feet!
What do you, guys, say?

Part of the reason I chose Org's character over Dwarf's was that now we have well represented height minority, and, of course, Org's character is claimed right away.

On the other hand, if that's alright, I'm posting another paragraph.
Quote from:  Othor II
The four travelers were different. Not only by appearance, or demeanour, but beside that, they were separated by some imperceptible boundaries that made them set themselves down a few feet from each other, and keep from talking. But it may be that the very atmosphere of the place made everyone shy, or the peace and calmness around weren't very favourable to the travelers' cause. And so, the first man spoke in an uncomfortable whisper to his companions:
- ending in suspense. We still need to discuss a couple of details, and in the meantime, our characters may try out their voices  ;).

I suppose the bard is Will?
Good job, Org :)

Although we don't have a female character for blatantly obious love sideplot, that's fine.
A Hobbit seems like a stout drinking fellow  :D

Heehee, this is gonna be fun to read.

Unless someone falls in love with the kobold, then there probably won't be any love in it. My character will probably be trying to look out for it and stuff, sort of like a big brother to a little sister or something.

Indeed it is mine. Thanks.

Hehe, we will see. There has to be some sort of early tavern scene.
