2010 Olympics - LATVIA!
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:43:25 pm »

Although I have a general disdain for the Olympics, I feel that as the resident Vancouverite (well, close enough), I ought to start this topic.

The Olympics have begun. The opening ceremonies are on as I type. They are so entirely unimpressive that I decided to go on these here forums. So far it was just some dude snowboarding on video, a bunch of natives dancing, and a whole bunch of team names called out in French and English. Oh, and all audience members were given white ponchos to give the illusion that there's actually snow anywhere near Vancouver right now. I can't believe my taxes are paying for this shit.

Thoughts? Predictions? Ranting?

Go get a photo of Stephen Colbert, he said he's going there.

Oh yeah, and the competitors too.

The 2010 olympics logo looks like Lisa Simpson performing an unspeakable act.

Yeah, I don't see it. I'm trying, but I don't.

I did find this though, which made me happy.

I'll be working on the Alice Lake checkpoint going towards Whistler for the 2010 games.  Cops EVERYWHERE military helicopters flying overhead, there aren't any Olympic Venues here and there are helicopters flying overhead.  Fantastic.

Sad to hear about that luger, though. And not a Luger, like the gun. The luger, as in "one who luges"

Some condoms can enhance performance, if you know what I mean.

OH GOD IS ANYONE WATCHING THIS? The poorly synced sexy wiccan fiddlers just made it totally worthwhile.

Condoms are performance-enhancing drugs?

I was going to make a comment about weed not being a performance-enhancing drug either, until I remembered the Olympic Drug Committee or whatever it's called actually considers it one...I think the image is more a statement about the City of Vancouver than the Olympics themselves.

Oh, so you're actually more Vancouver-situated than I am. What's the job? Security or something? Doesn't sound like a fun spot to be, regardless.

It's not security for the most part, it's to prevent traffic congestion in whistler.  Only people who have a pass or meet the required criteria, (such as a vehicle with 12 seats or more.)  Are allowed through during day time hours.

And, finally, Canadian engineering at it's finest, one of the hydraulics fails at the finale, and the torchbearers are left standing with nervous grins waiting for the urn-thing to appear. The look on Steve Nash face was priceless. After a minute of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra trying to play out the extra time, one of the 4 shafts fails to rise entirely.

Way to impress the world, Canada!
