Bears.  Gotta do something with those Godless Killing Machines.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Giant Toads don't breed though, unfortunately.

Crocodiles are the same size, though, and breed pretty quickly.

I think elephants are the largest land animals you can actually train and breed, and by a decent margin (size 16). Hippos are second (size 12), followed by giant lions/leopards (size 11).

They're size 10, and can breed. I'm not sure how well they fly, though, due to pathfinding issues.

I use wolves, and for the arenas; anything I can catch that seems like a fighter.

That can be anything from elephants to carps.

OH GOD, SURVIVE-THE-CARP ARENA.

Naked Mole Dogs. Attack power greater than a carp, larger than a dwarf, and no pain. (Except for the invaders, that is.)

Damn I wish the Elves would bring me something fun like Giant Eagles. In the first caravan I got a Fox. Since then not even empty cages, just loads of bins full of rope reed cloth  :(

I tried capturing the Giant Cave Swallows on my fort but they're too fast & attack my Dwarves so there's no point taming them once they're caged (will be using them in the arena of death later though, plenty of goblins to pit against the last one I have left). Might try caging some of the Cave Crocodiles in the underground lake later though.

I bursted out laughing so hard at this that my dog woke up, came in the room, and looked at me like I'm an idiot.

Then proceeded to brag about how he has 27 kills on his kill list and is super-doggenly tough.

This right here is one of the reasons to piss off the elves; happy elves bring those things that they really like, like cloth, dye, and wood crap. Unhappy elves don't bring cloth, and content themselves with things like alligators, bears, and cougars. The solution is obvious, piss off the elves however you can. Alternately, edit the raw files to give pack animals crazy high [trADECAPACITY], so one mule can carry three dozen animals plus all that cloth.

I've actually tried to just modify the raws to just give elves some friggin' wagons, and be done with it.  Still, that supermule idea sounds good, too.

Along these lines, do I need to re-gen if I mod (oh, say) elephants to have the [trAINABLE] tag, or can I just quit out, mod them, and come back in?
