Whats your favourite tame fighting creature?
« on: February 12, 2010, 06:21:26 pm »

Whats your favourite type of creature to tame for guard duty/arena fun/goblin feeding etc?

Personally I have a weakness for the classics: guard duty from war dogs and grizzy bears, or polar bears if I can get them - something very dwarfy about bears.
Arena stuff I like anything with a gladiatorial vibe: lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, gorillas, more bears, wolves and elephants.
I also like some exotic stuff like giant scorpions and eagles and amongst my many pits of creatures to throw gobbos into I like to have a water filled one with some aquatic beasties for bond villain fun.

At some point I'd like to capture some large beast-men like Minotaurs and Cyclopses if its possible - be good opponents for the arena.

I've modded my fire imps to both reproduce and also be tamed/trained.

Nothing is quite as dwarven as having war fire imps, who not only fight but also fling fireballs at random, setting the landscape on fire and turning the lush forest into a charred wasteland, with the wall of fire igniting those pesky elves with all of their cloth bins.

Hmm... I like the idea of Cave Crocodiles myself, in vanilla. Though if I ever found one, a GCS. I wish GCS could breed, so I could send an army of GCS on goblins.

What're you guys talking about?  I use that cage full of war rhesus macaques at the entrance EVERY chance I get!  Just wait and see until I figure a way to arm them with a few large iron daggers!

The massive GCS army I'm assembling, via dwarven traders. Muahahahahahahaha!

I think it'd be better to just throw him in a pit.
By pit I mean "ledge designated as pit some 30 levels above the ground water magma" and that would,as they say be the end of that.
Unless a sword/axedwarf gets to 'em.. then it's rhesus pieces...

War groundhogs. They don't do much damage individually, but they breed very quickly and a cagefull of dozens of them will swarm any ambush. They die a lot, but so do the goblins.

Besides, it's somehow enjoyable to think of groundhogs stacked to the very top of a cage and flooding out to kill.

im with Hyndis on this, fire imps setting your enemies ablaze is just plain cool.  though i dont know how to mod them to reproduce,  if someone could tell me that would come in handy  ;D

Add this to the entity file:

[CHILD:#][CHILDNAME:singular name:plural name]

where #= the amount of children you want the thing to have in one go

Im personaly fond of giant [animal]. Especialy war giant eagles. I had a fort with about a dozen war giant eagles once; they'd all sit ontop of my walls and when a seige or ambush came along would all fly down and tear into the unfortunate goblins. Also had a fort with a large population of war ogres. Thats another fun one!

....They just refuse to stay down unless butchered, in which case their skins will haunt you until you subdue and tan them. Never has legendary butcher and legendary tanner seemed so valueable as in this release.

Using orc mod's war Giant Wolf Spiders. (not the orcs, just the spiders themselves)

They outbreed cats, too, so the one cage in my entrance that has 50 WGWS pretty much replenishes itself in the event of an attack.

Dig Deeper's giant flying jellyfish.  They're not the strongest of beastiest, but they're very cool to me.

You really should make sure you're giving valid advice, since this bit is wrong - the CHILD tag specifies the age at which the animal becomes an adult. If you want to increase the litter size, use [LITTERSIZE:min:max].

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Mod.  I prefer a few wyverns guarding my front door.  Sure they breed slow, and are hard to catch since they fly, but those poison tail stingers can really do a number to a greenskin assault force. Especially when backed up by my regular military.  The only difficulty comes when the greens come to war riding their own...

Unmodded I like Lions and hippoes.  Lions mostly just for awesome.  Hippoes because they are big, violent, and if you have even a single female you have a bunch of wild males in the nearby river ready to release their love spores into your water supply and keep her crapping out more kids.
